The Cottage Restaurant
"A Blackpool institution, The Cottage is the town's most iconic fish and chip shop. A host of famous faces have made a bee-line for this famous Blackpool fish and chip shop over the years. Originally built as a farmhouse, the building dates back to 1856 and has been a fish and chip shop since 1920. Rick Stein singled out The Cottage in his Seafood Lover's Guide as having the best fish and chips in Blackpool."

Enjoyed an excellent lunchtime meal here with my brother. We had Halibut, must be the first time in 20 years, very rarely see it on a fish shop menu. It was really tasty and succulent in a light crispy batter. Service was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The guy ran through the menu and told us what his favourites were. Prices were good. Both of us had the same main as in the picture plus a round of bread and butter, a pot of tea & a coke all for £20. Can't grumble at that.
This establishment was a bit of a disappointment. The actual food was okay, but it wasn't a good experience. It genuinely took 55 minutes from entering through the door to getting some food — plus the big catch wasn't actually that big compared to the standard fish. The staff did not seem happy either. The lady that first served us got a bit confused and seemed like she was on the edge of a full blown breakdown There are sooooo many places to get fish and chips in Blackpool, so there's bound to be somewhere better than this plaice.
Really lovely chip shop, everything is cooked fresh, there is a lovely restaurant all cosy and red brick, the chippy has been serving the public for just over a 100 years so they must be doing something right, very friendly staff, can highly recommend this place
Well, at the seaside you have to have fish and chips! Had the Cottage special, fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and a pot of tea. Good value, even though I didn't manage the bread. The homemade tartare sauce was delish. Great service from Connor/Colin who was a joy and very attentive.
After a very long coach trip this lovely restaurant staff waited for us and served the most fantastic fish & chip supper. Cant remember having such wonderful fish lovely light batter. In a way happy that their not in my neighbourhood cos i think i'de be dinning there every second day..Such nice staff too.
This 'chippy' is going down hill fast! I waited 30 mins for just a fish and chips. My fish was cooked and placed on the side after 10mins but then to wait another 20 minutes for chips to be added to my order was ridiculous! There was enough chips in the fryers for many portions. There was only 1 other takeout customer at that time and 1 customer in the restaurant so it wasn't busy at all. The fish and chips were sloppy and greasy, it also smelt like the fish was cooked in old fat. £8 went straight in the bin! The service was ridiculously slow and the small lady wearing glasses who served me looked lost and unsure of what she was doing, which would explain why I waited so long. I definitely won't be returning.
Absolutely great fish and chips. If you are looking to rush in eat fast and out this is not the place to go. Proper fish and Chips cooked fresh to order take time. Quality fish and chips like these take a little longer and it's well worth the wait. There are lots of photos of celebrity patrons over the years so there's lots to look at whilst waiting. Friendly helpful staff and very reasonable prices are other ingredients that make a great meal. Downside is that due to location parking is on street and as this is a popular chippy lots of cars.
While there food is better then average. There service and staff leave a lot to be desired. So many of them, but not one knows what the other is doing... As for take away, if you have a hour or so to waste then you will be ok... Keeping letting your fish fryer lose heat time and time again and keep waiting for it to warm up, dose become a little tiring. Parking: None existing Wheelchair accessibility: Very poor.
Came here after watching a review by a well known YouTube blogger Big Mistake I can only presume that his was cooked specially Due to knowing it would be all over YouTube Or something went terribly wrong with ours. The fish batter was rock hard, and very greasy. Tasted like it had been re- cooked in old cooking oil, and the chip’s wasn’t much better. This led to myself and my partner having stomach upset within an hour of eating. And me throwing up! I sincerely hope this was a one off, and the owner ensures this never happens to anyone else. Sadly due to such a bad experience we will never eat here again.
Excellent fish and chips, with delicious homemade mushy peas. Friendly and efficient service in the restaurant and great value. A little off the beaten track, but well worth the effort.
