Story

Southern Co-op is a large, independent co-operative society operating in 11 counties across the south of England. We have been owned and traded by people across the southern region for over 140 years with our main business being food, where we have a network of over 200 stores.
We work hard to provide the best in fresh, delicious food with high standards of service to our customers but we’re also really committed to making a genuine difference to our local communities. From supporting local food and drink suppliers to active engagement with community groups and charities, we strive to build proactive, sustainable partnerships that benefit all.
Our Love Your Neighbourhood programme aims to help bring communities together by providing support through fundraising, donations and volunteering. Have a chat with your local Southern Co-op store manager or visit our website to find out more about how we can work with your community to make a positive difference.

Local convenient store that all ways seems to have what I need. Great beer, cider and wine selection with some items already chilled and the occasional multi-buy offer, spirits can be expensive

Extremely high prices comparable to a corner shop and bit grim/dull... wouldn’t use through choice, only through convenience to food outlets

Upon my first visit to this Co-operative food store I found myself sheltering from a gang of youths who decided it would be appropriate to re-enact scenes from Apocalypse Now, shelling unpurchased stock in the dairy and dessert aisle at the unsuspecting members of staff. Caught in the crossfire and completely unaware that I had been caught between enemy lines, I was hit with a projectiled egg. The poor staff were too caught up in the bombardment to offer any aid and must have been so shell-shocked that they retreated to the confines of the stock room. Thus, my hand prepared Ceviche that evening also suffered due to a distinct lack of lemon juice as I was unable to successfully complete my purchase at said store. Sadly, little has changed since my last woeful experience and I found an understaffed store overrun with vagrant and obnoxious adolescents. A pity.

17/04/2017 - Not nice walking into a Co-Op when the "manager" is belittling the staff she is working with... my family member and I were quite shocked and thought the management skills needed to be looked into!! If something needs to be discussed I would have thought not doing that infront of customers would be obvious... otherwise it's an okay shop, little overpriced but you get what you need.
