Absolutely wonderful pub. Staff were excellent: very cheerful and helpful. Lots of history associated with the pub, including holding sessions in the pub and there was a hangman's noose where the beer garden/smoking area is. Loads of dark wood and enough space to move about comfortably. The Guinness was excellent as was the Black Sheep Best Bitter.
The ginger lady with glasses from the bar staff is the rudest person I’ve ever come across in my whole life. She denied entry to me and my sister for having a UK government issued Biometric Residence Permit, saying it was not a valid ID, and that we need to show a driving license. She was not willing to listen to us and understand us even when we showed her proof on the GOV UK Website. We have visited the pub several times before but she is the only one who has denied us entry every single time. Her behavior was absolutely horrendous, and she seriously needs to learn how to respect others. We will not be visiting the pub ever again unless she gets fired or the manager of the pub teaches their employees how to treat customers respectfully.
What a great first pub for our family vacation! The traditional vibe you'd expect from an english bar. Our toddler even was overserved apple juice and passed out on their cushoned bench. They didn't mind serving us gin/tonic, ciders, and food until he woke up. What a magical place!
Good atmosphere, friendly bar staff and great pint of tribute. Didn't get food but pretty extensive pizzas and burgers on the menu.
My sister and I were refused entry by this extremely rude staff on grounds of ID, even though we had a legit UK government issued ID in hand. This lady refused to accept UK BRP as an ID and asked for a passport instead. Who the hell on earth carries their passport around?! When I opened the UK government website to explain to her that the BRP is legit, she still continued to refuse us and said “we can refuse whoever we want to”. This is the second time she had done this to us. I reminded her that although you can refuse anyone, you cannot deny entry to people on unlawful grounds and I am very sure in this case, she was purely being racist. I have been to chequers many times and other staff have never denied me entry except for this lady, I believe her name is Kelly - overweight, wears black frame glasses and a hair bun. I asked her if I could speak to her manager and she did not allow. She even refused to give an email ID so that I could contact the manager or the owner of the pub. This lady clearly has no knowledge and understanding of customer service and lacks empathy. I think she definitely hates her life and needs therapy.
This used to be the best pub in town, unfortunately I will never go back following some appalling service over the weekend. The pub appears to be relying on its fast food takeaway service and has neglected both the pub and its customers.
Popped in for a quick drink. Staff were great. Good selection of real ales and gins.
Very welcoming and friendly : nice and quiet when we went on a Sunday, Staff lit candles for us on the tables and were very welcoming. Me and my mum ordered the chicken tenders which had a very nicely seasoned breaded coating and rosemary salted fries which had a lovely sprinkling of chunky salt! we loved it. The beef chili loaded fries were also very tasty. My mum loved her latte and my hot chocolate was super! Would recommend, nice atmosphere and staff
The loaded fries were amazing! And the lady who works there is really nice
Very friendly staff lovely place for drinks with friends and family and also the prices for drinks very reasonable
