The Calverley Arms

About

The Calverley Arms is a much loved British country pub, that serves great food, lovely Beer and offers nice accommodation.

Story

Old maps indicate that a building was erected on this site in Victorian times between 1851 and 1893. Nestling on the edge of the picturesque village of Calverley, The Calverley Arms offers views over the adjacent Aire Valley and the edge of Leeds. It's a beautiful building nestling in a healthy plot of land bordered by large trees offering lots of open space and fresh air.
A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Lovely meal - as always - served by lovely friendly staff. I personally find the place excellent value for money but I can accept that is a personal and relative opinion. Tried a glass of Malbec with my meal I was not disappointed. Food was made with fresh ingredients and served in appropriate time. The restaurant felt warm but not overly hot and clean including utensils. One thing I would change is the napkins which felt a bit too small. Overall, it was a great experience visiting Calverley Arms again, enjoying great food, served by lovely, friendly staff. 5 stars for sure
The pub had a great atmosphere, staff were friendly and pleasant. The food quality was great and very good portion sizes. We went with a small dog and they were very accommodating and dog friendly. Would strongly recommend the house soda drinks as they were fantastic on a hot day! Food was served quickly once ordered and waitress was attentive, friendly and polite! Overall a fantastic experience and we will be booking again to go back with family.
We had a fantastic trip here today. Really pleasant staff, chilled out / relaxed, excellent quality food. We just had a really nice lunch and we were able to move our reservation due to weather/traffic issues. I'd heartily recommend this gem of a place. And with the snow fall, just some really excellent views of Yorkshire
Went on Sunday lunchtime for a family meal. Took a small dog we were looking after as the pub says it's dog friendly. This apparently only applies to the bar area. However, staff were very understanding and considerate and we kept her under our table in the dining area. There was a good menu and a separate one for children. The meals they had were very good value. For the adults we had 3 meat Sunday roast, burger and some others. All well presented and tasty and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful and the service good. My pint of Landlord was most acceptable. When the bill came it was pointed out to us that a service charge was included but could be removed if we wished. We would have left a tip anyway but with it being included I hope that the staff who deserve it, get it. A revisit to here may well get a five star review next time.
These were the carrot sticks served to my daughter. I wouldn't have even fed these to an animal. They even had the audacity to automatically add an 'optional' 10% £38 service charge to our bill without asking.
Four of us ate there and enjoyed the new refurbishment. Service was good from waiting staff. However, one of our party had prawn starter which was watery and bland and not that well presented it really didn’t need covering in paprika. We were offered refund on this - fair enough. The sea bass main was so fishy tasting it was unpleasant and was left on the plate. We were asked if we enjoyed our meals - 3 out of four were fine but not the fish. We were told that’s how sea bass tastes - it really shouldn’t and I suspect it was not fresh. Manager was adamant, so did not argue the case. We’ve been eating fish for a long time and in many restaurants, so rather insulted to be told how it should taste. Will not be returning for another meal, which is a shame as the waiting staff were lovely.
I love it, for 20 years. Dinner experience is improved the recent years, staff has polite and aware of the needs, and questions. Well done. I only disappointment factor was I had a voucher that was expired and fair for the staff refused. The checks the emailed for they and its says the an extended the vouchers to Valentine. My bill was £70, and being a regular is decided to dine other place, and trust and clarify is key for me. Thank you.
This was the first time my husband and I had visited the Calverley Arms since before the pandemic and we were dismayed at the deterioration in the standard of decor. The place is in need of a great deal of tlc not to mention a deep clean. The food was OK and the staff were polite and attentive. The carpets need a good clean or replacing and don't get me started on the grim on the ladies toilet doors. And if you're going to open the windows it's a good idea to make sure the surround is clean.
Just called in for a few drinks. Reasonable selection on offer and they look to be targeting a clientele with slightly deeper pockets. A fridge of several types of champagne is very prominent. 1 pint of beer and 1 pint of lemonade cost well over £8. Don't know if short staffed but service at the bar was not very speedy. The surroundings were good and the seating comfortable.
Some of the best views from a pub, so much space inside and out. Lovely staff and food.
