We have had an amazing weekend at the Bell. The staff were so helpful nothing was too much trouble. The food was outstanding some of the best cooked meals we've had.The rooms were clean and comfortable with plenty of quality tea ,coffee etc . The actual hotel was wonderful, full of history. The knowledgeable staff love the place and were able to tell us all about it. This has been the best weekend break a huge thanks to all at The Bell. Food & drinks: Great selection and well cooked. The blade of beef melted in the mouth and Tasted delicious.
No problems at all. I had reason to stay over mid week and booked a lovely double room with breakfast. I arrived reasonably late 9pm-ish but a welcome arrival and time for a drink in the bar. Had a great sleep, refreshed shower and tasty breakfast. The car park at the rear is a little tight for parking but that’s common in a lot of places. I’d stay here again as it’s very pleasant, handy for cheese and the A1M/Peterborough
We met family here so there were 7 of us. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Dena on reception was a great help, Stephanie, Lorna served lunch and our snack in the evening, all very friendly but very professional. The lunch was amazing. They obviously have a great chef. My husband and I then stayed overnight. Nespresso coffee machine in our room, bars of chocolate and the the greatest toiletries. We will certainly be back in the future.
Simply put: phenomenal. My favourite restaurant in the whole area. Great food, really great. Beautiful architecture, the building is outstanding. Polite staff. 10 out of 10 every time I've been.Rooms: 5/5
I’ve given this review five stars because on the whole we had a lovely stay. The room was great and very comfortable. The staff were lovely, helpful, cheerful and courteous. The food was good. My only bugbear was that although the room was clean and tidy, the cleaning was only surface. I realise that there are a lot of rooms to clean and time is of the essence so only a quick scoot around the rooms might be allowed. Skirtings and shelf edges were very dusty, the bottom of the shower door was very grubby and mucky. Grouting was mouldy in places this is very easy to deal with. The desk fan was covered in very old thick dust and I wasn’t inclined to use it. A hook on the back of the bathroom door would have been handy too. All these things could be dealt with very easily. It wouldn’t stop us staying there again but it’s worth pointing out.
Really enjoyed our Saturday lunch in the Bistro, meeting up with another couple. Food was exceptional, service good all in a lovely setting. Will definitely come back soon.Service: 5/5
Nice old coaching inn close to the A1. We stayed in Blacksmiths which has a downstairs lounge with bedroom and bathroom up some steep stairs. The bedroom was small but adequate. The door to the bedroom was heavily sprung and squeaked, which meant that it was very noisy going to the bathroom at night. The food and service were excellent. Will definitely stay again but not in the same room.
Very pleasant and easy to get to place, just off A1M. Good variety of food options on the menu and decent portion sizes. We all mostly had a burger with another on the beef dish and all were great. Desserts finished it off well with the sticky toffee pudding being the pick of the bunch! As a participant of "Dry January", while others were on beer and wine, I had a selection of non-alcoholic beers.
Today we arrived around 17.00 at the Bell Inn. Because of the amazing reviews we chose this place to stay. When we arrived the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I told them at check in that we had been driving for over 8 hours and asked whether there was a tub in the room due to extreme tiredness. And because this hotel was marked as dog friendly on bookings I chose this particular hotel. At arrival however they had to change our room because apparently they are not so dogfriendly as they say. We were escorted to wait in the beautiful pub with also friendly staff and good food. When we got to the room which was really nice and pretty but outof nothing a huge wedding party broke down with terrible loud music downstairs. I called the reception and I asked whether we could change rooms because the party apparently was gonna happen until the late night. None of this was told us at arrival. We payed enough and also spend enough at the restaurant to be handled like just a cash machine. All they could say was sorry for the inconvenience. Honestly I lost my head after the drive we had. So we went back to the reception. Again the manager Alcia was there and I confronted her. I asked why she didn't tell me at arrival because then I would have chosen a different hotel before we spend all the money and settled in the room. All she could say was : normally we tell all our guests. But when I checked in she didn't say a thing even when I explicitly told her we needed to sleep. I think the way Alicia handled this was not professional and I'm extremely upset. She kept finding excuses , about having having dog and that we booked last minute. But if you check in your guests you tell them straight, don't escorted them into a pub, change the room and give excuses. The solution was to give our money back and go elsewhere. At 9 at night! What an experience. Never again .
We didn't stay but booked for a wedding breakfast. We was well aware of another wedding booked the same day but as we were only a small party and nothing else was booked it wasn't a problem. The lady on reception even showed me the restaurant. This was on Sunday 18th September I hadn't heard back nearly a week on and they didn't reply to any phone calls so 25th September I went in and spoke to Katie who said she would ring me, telling me that they now had a big party booked as well as the wedding. About 10 minutes after leaving I received a call saying sorry we can no longer accommodate you. But in between me going in at the start and a week later they could take another booking for a bigger party than ours. Would I recommend them never. Have been going in there for a number of years for lunches and dinners but would think twice before going in there again!!!
