I visited the library for the first time today as I moved nearby. I can't say that I felt particularly "welcomed" by the staff although I was very polite. Maybe it was just a bad day.
Employees here are extremely effective to ruin the calm and quietness of the place. A public funded library with rich resources, but these unmindful staff with their loud conversations are ruining everything. Higher authority should be critical about this.
This is a lovely library and the staff are helpful but they are extremely loud in personal conversation, you don't expect to know what they had for dinner the previous evening and laughing and joking loudly. I even asked aren't we supposed to me mindful of the volume to which someone replied "no not anymore". I certainly wouldn't think I could concentrate on a book or work in here which is a shame. I appreciate people like to chat but the volume is unacceptable.
I spent a Saturday afternoon here, while waiting to pick my daughter up from an event. I think those complaining about noise and attitude of the staff are unfair. This is more than a library - it’s a community hub, providing warmth, activities, resources, internet access a hot drink and a conversation for anyone. Sure, there need to be quiet spots for study, but all you have to do is ask the staff not complaining or accusing and they’ll point you to a quiet corner or let you know what times there isn’t a noisy children’s activity going on. I’m sure, with the cost of living crisis coming with the cold weather this winter, warm hubs like this will be vital for some.
Staff are just persistently rude to the public. Shouting out and talking about their personal lives while people are working. I have no problem with people chatting but their volume is unacceptable. Computers have to be booked understandable Personal devices cant be used instead of computers understandable. Public can only have 1hour at the computer even when the library is empty not understanable. Public are expected to wipe computer areas after use understandable but with dried out wipes. Completely useless Really poor effort all round
Had to do about 100 pages of photocopying. The staff were incredibly helpful and made what I thought would be an extremely stressful experience very easy. They were helpful polite and gave me all the attention I needed to make it a good experience. Thank you Blackley library
This is appallingly cantankerous and catastrophic atomic
I don't think they have the best choice of books but I'm am very grateful that we have this library within a mile from us I can honestly say when I have requested the help from any staff member when I have had to use the internet or photocopy machine they have always been very polite and very helpful so thank you for your service
Nice, clean and easily accessible ... but not very helpful staff. I phoned to inquire about printing facility and was told I'd need to have a library card which I have, and that they close for lunch 1-2pm. Arriving at 12.45 I was told the library was already closed for lunch by the same member of staff I'd spoken to earlier on the phone even though there was 15 minutes till closing time. I was told I could return after lunch which didn't help me at all since I was trying to print a covering letter to accompany a job application and I was trying to get the 1pm post ... but this didn't make any difference. I only went because I was having printer problem at home and if I had been told that they switched their computers off at 12.45 I wouldn't have made the special journey there. This is the second time I have been told that the library was "closed" 15 minutes before the official closing time. Before I was only returning books but that didn't make any difference either. So as I said lovely library if you can get in but poor communication and customer service skills.
A library is a place of relative quiet at least when there are no children's activies but you can expect on occasion people to be loud or disturbing, right?! nothing is perfect, so aside from that and the odd shouty person its generally not expected to be piccadilly gardens during rush hour, right?! WRONG !! THE DISTURBANCES ARE FROM THE STAFF WHO SEEMED TO HAVE FORGETTEN THAT QUIET IS IN GENERAL EXPECTED. EXPLANATION...you take a phone call in the library and you are told "take it outside" yet the library receives a phone call dealing with private issues and the staff show no manners, no decorum, by shouting the whole conversation, wow !!!! IRONY , and they are rude , obnoxious, unhelpful, confrontational, and ignorant. Enough said me thinks , now i happily go elsewhere .............................
