Camping and Caravanning Club Site

Story

There are glorious views of Dartmoor National Park from this lovely Devon campsite.

Fabulous views and numerous walking and cycling opportunities await those camping at our lovely Tavistock Club campsite. This pretty site lies on the central western boundary of the stunning Dartmoor National Park.

This spacious campsite accommodates up to 80 units and has modern facilities including individual showers rooms with toilet and sink, disabled facilities and a laundry and washing up area. As well as the many dog walking opportunities off site, there are two large enclosed dog walks on site.

Tavistock, 2 ½ miles from the site, has world heritage status. It is a picturesque and ancient Stannary and market town with the beautiful River Tavy running through its centre. Whether you enjoy lovely cafes and shops or grand architecture and historical abbey ruins, it is well worth a visit.

Leave your car on site and venture on foot or two wheels and explore Dartmoor’s sweeping hills and wooded valleys. The National cycle route number 27 (coast to coast lfracombe to Plymouth) passes 200 yards from the site.

A good place to start your visit to Dartmoor is the National Park Visitor Centre at Princetown, east of Tavistock campsite. Displays and exhibitions give a wonderful insight into the history, culture and wildlife of the area. Princetown also offers excellent access to the north and south moors for hill walkers.

The beautiful village of Sheepstor south east of Tavistock campsite is where Stephen Spielberg’s Warhorse was filmed, while north of the campsite, Lydford boasts a castle and the stunning Lydford Gorge which stretches for one and a half miles from the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool to the 100ft Whitelady Waterfall.

Lovely site, so well kept. We now keep our caravan in storage there & hope to go down most months. It's so convenient for all.of Devon & Cornwall, where we usually holiday, as we have family in Exeter & Newquay.

Fantastically helpful guys there when we arrived for the night.I don't think they could have done anymore if they made a cup of coffee! Clean shower block and great local knowledge. Nothing was a problem for these guys. Thanks for your help.

Nice site close to Tavistock. I'd say it's more suited to caravaners than campers. Well kept, very quiet atmosphere around the site, but the people were nice and friendly. Has to lose a star due to the showers being barely usable, a trickle of water at best even at non peak times. This said, the facilities were incredibly clean.

What a lovely campsite - stayed here with a motorhome for 7 nights whilst walking/exploring the area. Ideally situated for walking into Tavistock (use the backroad down through the golf course - much quieter and safer to walk), walk took 50 mins and is just under 3 miles. There is a bus service at £1:10 each way or taxis £5 from Tavistock centre so if you fancy a late night (last bus is 17:40) it does not cost much. The campsite facilities are spotless, the staff all very friendly and helpful and as stated by others the shower pressure is a bit weak but this is due to the pumping system which is explained on the toilet walls. I found the showers perfect as I cannot remember anyone else being in, when I was in albeit it is mid December. I will definitely be recommending this to my friends and will plan to return next summer. Tavistock golf club is on the bus route and looks a good challenge if you have your clubs with you.
