Who needs a trip on the Orient Express when you can travel back in time through beautiful scenery while being served a light lunch or afternoon tea / glass of wine at your table on the Strathspey Steam Railway? What a fantastic experience for a very reasonable price. Staff in their smart uniforms were brilliant and the whole trip was highly memorable.
We turned up on the day on a Sunday with 4 adults and 2 under 5s and got on no problem as there are quite a few carriages. The carriages except 1st class and dining carriage are dog friendly so the wee pooch came along! The staff were fantastic, so friendly. Only 3 departures per day so I'd recommend doing the 1st departure if going to aviemore around 11am and taking the latest train back at around 3pm. Such a beautiful train and the stations are adorable. A lovely afternoon out
I added this to the activities for my trip only very early in the morning prior to an eight hour plus train journey to Aviemore.nI am very glad I did. The tour lasts for around an hour and forty five minutes, calling at Boat of Garten and Broomhill.nIt appeals to all ages, and especially for steam enthusiasts. They were keen to get a close up view at Boat of Garten.
You need to do this!! We went on the Steam Train today and absolutely loved every minute! It was like going back in time. The carriages were so well preserved and we took a walk up to the first class carriages and got to have a look at them we were standard class. Worth every penny at less than £20pp. The views are lovely on the way up and there were 2 decent 10 min stops on the way up and down at a station where you could get out and see the train in its glory. It was really cool seeing the front detach and join the back on the return journey. You can also get some great views of the train from the big windows at the end of the carriage. Highly recommend to do this!
Visited for the light lunch treat. Food was fantastic. Staff were amazing. We booked the first class carriage as well. The ride on an old steam was something we'll never forget. All monies raised go towards maintaining the railway so a great cause too. Highly recommend
