Expect long waits on hold, phone line to go dead or no appointments. The management of the bookings and appointments is terrible. Pre pandemic this was a great surgery now though it is very poor. If and when you get to see a doctor or nurse practitioner they are great. But you have more chance of winning the lottery. 23/12/22 Edit Called this morning for an ear infection with my daughter at 08.20. Told they were full and they would refer me to a GP overflow in the Maelor. Called them back at 11.00 to say we were still waiting for a call. Had an abrasive response and told to hang up and they will call. Well it’s 16.20 and still no call. If you can’t be bothered seeing us you should have just said so! Off to out of hours it is then!! If I could give less than a star I would.
Before the fakedemic I could not fault this surgery, you could book appointments online, they'd answer the phone within 20 minutes, but since covid rules there awful using it has an excuse. I had a text to phone the surgery monday, I've tried 3 times this week all from 4.30pm Currently number 1 in the queue but I've been that for the 65 minutes of waiting for someone to answer if you not going to answer the phones then you need to start phoning patience its not fair.. Sort it out its no wonder our hospital are full because gp surgeries are not helping the situation. Some of the receptionist are nice some are just really rude.
The Welsh NHS have continued with Pandemic Protocols................so for all of us waiting to return to the service, we had before the Pandemic. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be happening. So for now if you're able to see an actual Doctor, then count yourself lucky. Any worries or concerns regarding your health will therefore be subject to your own descriptive skills on the telephone. It's not the fault of all the NHS staff involved. BUT FOR A FEW THAT SET THESE PROTOCOLS IN PLACE.
Have tried since 08:02 this morning to speak to a receptionist. Either they hang up or you are left on hold with the most annoying music after a long winded spiel about service for well over an hour, and still no one picks up the phone
Changed from Hillcrest to Strathmore believing it would be an improvement . Bad move...where to start first. Had ear's syringed by a very helpful nurse. Excellent service. My mum went to the GP who diagnosed her as having high blood pressure and sent her to the Stroke clinic at the Maelor thinking that she may have already have had a mini stroke!. gave my Mum some tablets to help with some aspirin which resulted Mum vomiting the same night. Spent all afternoon at the clinic with a trainee DOCTOR who was fully quipped to deal with the situation , attached with a A4 piece of paper and pen. I had to prompt him what questions to ask!. For myself I asked for my Ears to be syringed again..told by receptionist and practice Manager that Nurse would be not willing to do this now because of COVID as she was scared of getting "splashed"!..unbelievable. Practice Manager tried to back her up by saying all GP's now not offering service. Blatant lie as i actually spoke to the Nurse in Borras Surgery who would help me but as i was no longer a patient with them this was not possible. Have today paid £50 privately to get this resolved as Blocked painfull ears and tinnitus. Also suffering from Sciatica for the last 6 weeks and have tried a number of times to see a GP/Nurse but none available I was told it would be passed to the Urgent Health Care Team at the Wrexham Maelor. Over the course of the next week i spoke to three women physio's who asked many questions and gave me considerable advice. The last lady called me at appro 2.45pm and after much discussion advised that she could see me the same day at 3.30pm. It gave me less than 20mins to drive to the hospital, park and arrive at Dept 15. As with sciatica just getting into a car takes some time. When i advised if i could make an appointment the day after or soon, the lady advised that she was off for 2 weeks! and that there was no other muscuskeletal physio available!..i then gave up and put the phone down. I wish i had never changed Surgery's. I did not believe that the service could get any worse. Finally i did manage to see a GP in December 2021 and asked to go private as i am fortunate enough to have private healthcare...i am still waiting. the GP sent it to the Maelor instead of the Spire...she logged it as a Routine appointment and not privtae.. i now have to wait sometime in April.
An absolute joke of a GP practice. They only fail their patients and cause more harm than help. Do not use them at all.
Better to visit than phone you never get that time back !!, but as with most surgeries appointments thin on the ground unless you want to see a doctor in about a month!!
I would give it 3.5. There are doctors like Dr.Bala amazing, Dr. Patil and Dr. Gowland haven’t seen her for a couple of years who go above and beyond and give an exceptional service. However there are doctors who can be dismissive and you do feel like you aren’t getting the support. Also I suppose like with many NHS GPS, you tend to see many different doctors, so sometimes a certain doctor will oversee something, then it will be put down and left and somebody else will pick it up and want to do different treatment options. A few examples are test results that have come back clear, a doctor will mention if that happens doing further tests, then you see someone else and you’re starting again. For that reason you feel like you’re on your own to investigate, identify and request treatments, as there doesn’t seem to be anybody responsible for your overall condition. Also at times I’ve been prescribed heart medication and not sure when to get back in touch, to ensure that the dosage is correct etc. I do feel like I’ve been given medication and sent away and while that’s fine for infections etc, when it’s serious like a heart problem, you may not always have symptoms or be told what to do next. I think sometimes it needs to be followed up. I’m constantly looking at the NICE guidelines to see if anything else needs to be done, which as a patient with no medical training, I shouldn’t have that stress and responsibility. There are very few reviews on here from people that wanted to register but aren’t local. For me, I think that’s good as it’s oversubscribed and difficult to get appointments and as nice as it is to treat everybody, it’s not possible or fair to existing patients.
It’s been one week I am trying to get my prescription for antidepressants, which I’ve been taking the last two months. Every time I call the Gp I wait at least 30 minutes before I can talk to someone. Last week the receptionist confirmed my medicine was sent to my local pharmacy. I went to collect and the medicine was not there. I tried calling the Gp for three times today first time I waited 25 minutes and the call was ended, second time waited for 1 hour and was not answered, trying now for the third time and the call was hanged up again after 20 minutes I called the pharmacy Rowlands inside the Gp twice today and said It’s been two days I ran off medication and explained I cannot just stop taking antidepressants since i might have side effects, what I head was : you need to keep ringing the Gp, they will eventually answer. I feel so disrespected, if I could I would buy the medicine but it’s not allowed, it seems like nobody cares, don’t know what to do, it’s a total lack of responsibility.
I've always been happy with this practice, but it is more difficult to get an appointment these days
