St. Winefride's Well, one of the many meeting points of worship between Catholics and Anglicans has its origin through the 14th century. St. Winefride, virgin and martyre, has a legendary narration about her. She lived a holy and devout life and accepted Jesus as her bridegroom. A pagan prince wanted to have her and tried to seduce her. After many useless attempts the prince had his revenge for her refusal by beheading. St. Beuno the hermit, her uncle, hearing about it, reached from his monastery and joined her head back to her body and blessed her. She lived still more years after that in a monastery with other religious women. There are documents to prove certain things from the history like in 1427 monks sought help from the Pope for renewing the chapel of St. Winefride. In the book "The History of the Parishes of Whiteford and Holywell" we see the narration of Thomas Pennant (1796) about the Well and its surroundings. Once, when in the flourishing times of industrial revolution Holywell was one of the attractions of England and to the whole world, thanks to the abundance of the water. Now Holywell remains a sweet memory like those rusted train rails of Holywell in history books while St. Winefride and her Well continues to be venerated by Catholic pilgrims.
