St Martin´s is an independent co-educational preparatory school for pupils aged 2-11 in Grimsby.

Story

St Martin´s, established in 1930, is an independent co-educational preparatory school for pupils aged 2-11. Housed in a stunning Edwardian building our traditions of conduct and manners dovetails with our academic excellence. At the rear of the main building the children less than five years of age are taught in our purpose built Early Years Setting which is a modern building full of light and colour that also incorporates a separate playing area.
The school offers a happy and caring environment where children can flourish. All children are encouraged to aim high and always try their best in order to fulfil their potential. We have a first class academic reputation; exceptionally high rates of children pass the Lincolnshire Grammar Tests and progress to the outstanding local Grammar Schools. Highly focussed academic classroom lessons are balanced with specialist teaching of French, Drama, PE, Swimming and Music.

The school provides top class education to the pupils along with excellent pastoral care to ensure our children feel secure and happy. We seek to create an informal, friendly but firm atmosphere in a carefully structured framework where the relationship between teacher and child is at the centre of the learning experience.
We have learnt that the presence of a stable and caring environment is vital to the growth of the child’s self confidence and self awareness.
St Martin´s is one of Lincolnshire´s leading independent schools with consistently high national test results at the end of key stage 2 and in the Lincolnshire 11+ examinations.

Early years/infants:
The children are entered into our kindergarten where individual profiles are in place. An interesting and varied curriculum is offered which meets and surpasses the national requirements. Great emphasis is placed on developing the basic skills of literacy, reading and numeracy in which high standards are achieved and applauded. Children can now join at 2 years of age.

Junior Department:
All the junior children are taught in the main building. Careful monitoring continues with regular formal assessments taking place. A broad and balanced curriculum is evident including in year 5 timetabled preparation for the local grammar school´s examinations. As they move through the school there is a greater emphasis on specialist teaching, not only in specialist areas such as games/music but by year 5 in the cores of English, Mathematics and Science.
