Do get the key from the nearby farm shop £5 deposit so you can go inside this ancient chapel. Stunning view down to the Abbey through the trees. The farm shop also has a folder with historical information on the chapel and its various uses over the centuries. Interesting to see the reference to Indulgences and a visit here gave you 120 days off purgatory.

Great find but unfortunately it was locked,key is located at the Farm Shop but was shut. So be aware if you want to get inside you need to check with the farm shop opening times as you have to pay a £5 deposit for the key. So we will be back as it's steeped in history, a great place to walk too, especially with the wicked cafe located on the Farm. Maybe a great idea to put the notice reference the key at the bottom of the hill rather than on the top of the hill by the Church,also perhaps use the cafe for the key??

A delightful little chapel, originally part of nearby Milton Abbey  - founded c933AD by King Athelstan of Wessex - high up on a hillside. lt was built on the spot where Athelstan is said to have had a vision. It is a plain building built by monks as a pilgrim's chapel. There is a steep staircase cut into the hillside that links the chapel to the abbey church. It was too slippery wet for us to climb today so we arrived by an alternative level route!  TIP: to enter you'll need to loan the key, from the nearby farm shop, for a £5 deposit. There's no indication that the key is required until you reach the chapel door ...

superb views, a very special place in gorgeous woodland with Capability Browns landscaping
