A very nice station. I like a very modernist style. it looks very modern and can even be an interesting si-fi movie set. In addition, there are a lot of nice streets around the station where you will find a lot of nice pubs and restaurants. Overall, it's a nice neighborhood where there are many attractive tourist places in the area.
This place is what I think the future looks like. It's big, beautiful, clean, and quiet. Importantly, there are also trains here. It was never crowded on any of the times I visited, and feels very spacious.
The station is 5 years ahead from most of other underground stations. Big building, nice and clean & wide galleries This is how some of the other stations should be renovated on Jubilee line. Lods of entrance and exit doors, lods of stairs it actually can be quite problematic if lifts are not working and u need step free access and quite a few stairs.
Tl;dr make a weekly pilgrimage here. Seriously. Winner of the 2000 Sky Best Building Award, situated in Zone 1, in between two bustling London termini, with an Out of Station Interchange with a third, Southwark Station is seriously impressive. Outside of the regular service patterns, which are frequent and fast in and of themselves, the architecture is remarkable. Enclosures in an open space masquerading as escalators provide perfect opportunity to bombard passengers with advertising a la Oxford Circus. But not here. Fantastic station.
I love this station, the modernist architecture fitting with the jubilee line theme. One of my favourites on the underground
Many days, the station is closed, we dont know why, I go to work and all of the sudden Southwark station close, I come back home after work, and close, why?
This is arguably the prettiest London Underground station in London. Designed by Sir Richard MacCormac of MJP Architects - It was opened on 20 November 1999 as part of the Jubilee Line Extension, it also has access to Waterloo East. Trains from this station go to Stratford, Canary Wharf, Greenwich, Westminster, Waterloo, Green Park, Baker Street and onward north to Stanmore. The station staff are helpful and friendly and the station is fully accessible.
The River Thames, is a river that flows through southern England including London. At 215 miles, it is the longest river entirely in England and the second longest in the United Kingdom, after the River Severn. It flows through Oxford, Reading, Henley-on-Thames and Windsor.
Station is fine apart from the excessive surveillance by the woman today wearing a grey headscarf about 5ft 2 tall and of stocky build she’s a TfL member of staff - anyway whilst I noticed she was scrutinising people more than most staff would - I thought nothing of it - she noticed my bag was slightly open and told me this was fine though she was clearly watching me closely - I say this after what followed. The escalator was empty when we got on - it was going at the pace of knots and my son had just jumped on with me - we have to go on at the same time - so he remains at my side until I move him as he’s so nervous on the escalator - however as the escalator was going so fast and it was a short escalator and no one else was on I hadn’t risked moving him. With about two steps to go I heard someone bound down the stairs having the audacity to press my son’s shoulder pushing him to go forward and then shouting to me “can you move your son - you need to keep this side clear.” I just thought it was a rude and impatient member of the public who couldn’t wait for a step to go before we descended. To my surprise I noticed it was the TfL lady she continued to rudely educate me even when I told her that the risk posed by him moving and falling would be greater for him and other passengers. She paused not having thought more widely about this and the vulnerability of children on escalators but insisted to be rude. It seemed clear she was going to exploit the little power she had here but unlikely with a blonde whole woman or a buff white man - I’m guessing only to other Asian women where she thinks she can get away with it. Anyway I wished her a nice day - at work. TFL need to address a serious training issue here - this lady cannot go about being rude and subjecting commuters to her abuse. If she doesn’t like her job may be it’s time she got another one - but she’d need a better attitude to stand a chance anywhere else. To her I say don’t try to ruin other people’s day because you’re not happy with your job - it only leaves you confined to a job you clearly don’t really like.
Excellent station, lots of buses stops and signage for your destination and remember Southwark staion and Waterloo East are closely linked. This is viaplatform D, and this will also provide access to Waterloo station. About 6 minutes walk, and all above ground. Excellent connection point to Westminster and Green park. The station also provides quick access to Waterloo East, which takes you on to the Kent Coast or London Bridge. Very handy during rush hour and a hidden gem for cutting down on journey time.. Lastly visited a lovely coffe shop called Panda Cup Coffee,Blackfriars road which had an excellent set of drinks and Beverages. This coffee shop is near the rental cycle for the underground, The Art of Underground exhibition and opposite Nandos. The best coffee shop in Milky Way. Many bars including The Ring are close by, and a sprinkling of restaurants including TAS, an fish and chip with beer on Isabella street. Supermarkets include Local Sainsbury's for food etc about 3 minutes walk on the CUT. Lastly there are some quaint retro wine shops opposite Panda Cup Coffee. Go and explore and you will find some hidden gems. If you exit Southwark station you can also walk over to Blackfriars bridge about 4 minutes away or go to Elephant castle opposite direction about 9 minutes walk. Such a good station and very good for Artist,Photographers,Film critics or just the regular bod. Go and explore like Lara Croft Enjoy.
