The University has garnered numerous accolades and boasts state-of-the-art facilities, rendering it highly appealing to both domestic and international students. The quality of instruction is of a high standard, ensuring that every student receive adequate attention and support, which is reflected in the smaller class sizes. I wholeheartedly endorse this university without reservation.
The university is amazing, in the heart of Southampton. Plus they have lots of activity going on campus
If I could give it no stars, I would. Attending Solent for three years has by far been the most tedious, agitating experience of my life. Firstly, I study Photography, so if you’re considering this subject at this uni, stop here and run as fast as you can. I’ve despised every year of my studies not because of the course content, but because of the ridiculous systems in place. Without going in to detail, this University provides mediocre support for mental health or other issues affecting uni work, for example, I had a family member experience some serious struggles, which required me to be present and away from uni - I informed my module leader, he said “it’s fine, go do what you need to do, you can email me your work up to a month after the deadline”, so I did. I then came back to uni wondering where the hell my grade was when he informed me he was incorrect, he couldn’t accept it through email. So I was failed. Then I failed the year because of the module, but was allowed to “proceed with deficit”, meaning I had to submit the work during the second year. Fine. This is where it somehow gets even more ridiculous, I’m in my car, driving to asda, a get a notification pop up telling me the submission link was open, I parked up and opened the link, “5 minutes until submission link closes” what?? I was 20 minutes away from home, away from my laptop where my work was. I went into uni the next day asking the hub what the hell happened, they apologised and said I’ll have to be failed on that one and wait for the next opportunity when was this opportunity?? I don’t know, they didn’t know?? time went by, no info shared, I “fail” my second year and get a proceed with deficit because I supposedly didn’t complete this module. Fast forward to present times, I’m now in my last 3 months of uni, I have lots of stuff to be doing, but instead I’ve been pestering to find out how I can graduate with my missing module. I’ve been told today, that I missed the December submission because for some reason the submission link wasn’t available to students - and yet that counts as a fail on my name! Now I’ve been told to begin the appeal process. How ridiculous! I just want to focus on my FMP, instead I’m dealing with the absolute bureaucracy of solent.nnThere’s a painful irony here, I choose Solent Uni because it was a beautiful, modern looking university. And the modernity of this uni is the very reason why I despise it - no lecturers understand the submission system or criteria, which is why I’m in this awful position.nnSave yourself the stupid 30K and go to somewhere where the courses are developed better & lecturers trained better. I wish I did!
The lack of information and organisation at this university in Manchester campus is ridiculous.nMy brother is studying in this university, suddenly they remove his name of the attendance, and nobody it seems to be able to fix the issue and now today this morning university did allow my brother get inside as his name is not showing there. They lost the records of his attendance on their system and now he’s been rejected from study. He spent his whole time leaving from Liverpool where we live, going to Manchester centre today.
It’s a good university but they have started to defund the art departments and they will focus on the other types of academic studies within the university further.nnWhen it comes to the future of Solent University and their students which is unfortunate, as the university is actually more of an academia of art, design and technology rather than other studies and at an excellence in those fields in comparison to others.nnI would give it a 5 star if I dint know this but as I care for the opportunity of others and not just myself, it’s nice to give a heads up.nnThe tutors and technicians and other staff that is working every day for the students are doing an incredible job - I just wish the university would cherish them instead of cutting corners in the budgets and the staff.
