This station suffers from being next to the airport because the parking here is expensive. £15 minimum. The pick-up/drop-off area (about 5 spaces) is far too small for location, so if you arrive here to drop somebody off at peak times, expect chaos.

A busy station with frequent services on the London Waterloo to Weymouth line. Cross country and local services stop here too. The station really could not be closer to Southampton Airport; I'd say a two or three minute walk from the down platform and under five minutes from the up platform. The airport hotel (a Premier Inn) is also about a five minute walk away. There is a taxi rank right outside the station building. The station is well maintained but the building has become a little tired. There has, however, been substantial investment in recent years in the form of a large multistorey car park and a new footbridge with a cycle rail and lifts at each end. At the time of this review parking is not exactly cheap (£15 per day, I think, but half price for arrivals after the morning rush hour) and it can sometimes be difficult to find a space. If all else fails there's usually room in the airport short stay multistorey car park around the corner but it's excruciatingly expensive (£25 if I recall correctly, if you needed to spend three or four hours in London). Both the car parks are well lit and feel safe but it's not uncommon for one or both lifts in the station car park to be out of action. If you're not familiar with the area, the location of the station close to Junction 5 of the M27 is a blessing and a curse. If arriving or departing by road at busy times you should definitely expect some delays. Coming out of London on a packed train results in a very long wait to get out of the car park. If your train leaves London between 4.30pm and 5.30pm you'll also be joining the queue of traffic coming out of Eastleigh to the motorway. If the traffic's really bad I'd say it could take 30 minutes to get from the train door to the M27 less than a mile away but it's usually more like 15 minutes. Despite the traffic, if your journey starts or ends by car it's much more pleasant and convenient to use this station instead of Southampton Central or Winchester.
