I visit this area quite often. My husband's parents live nearby. Whenever I come, I usually have luggage with me. Of course, when I'm with my husband, he helps me, but there have been times when I’ve travelled alone. My doctor has advised me not to lift anything heavy, as it could affect my uterus, so carrying a heavy suitcase across the stairs from one platform to the other has been quite difficult.nnI understand some might suggest walking the longer route uphill to avoid lifting, but that’s still not very convenient.nnEach time I pass through this station, I rarely see it open or staffed. I sincerely hope that, in the near future, an elevator will be installed. It would also be helpful to have water and snack vending machines available, especially considering the frequent delays and train cancellations.nAnd some toilet , please?nnThank you in advance!
One platform - so make sure you know which direction your train is going in! Handy digital signs keep that on check and the free parking really helps.
As someone who gets absolute anxiety when it comes to public transport..... The lady at the help desk was an absolute star. Kind, polite, helpful and passionate. ..... I still have major anxiety but printing out my journey when there's lots of issues on the line and now I have loads of changes I'd be completely lost and scuppered without her help. So a big thank you to I believe Shelly ..... She deserves a raise as it's also Wednesday and she's still cheerful
Decent enough station with a car park, shelter, ticket office and buses every 15 minutes to Southampton. Trains are hourly however​the buses have an offer for a £2 ticket to Southampton or Winchester if your train is delayed or cancelled. Very nice.
A hidden gem of a station, with just a single loop from Romsey to Salisbury and back via Romsey! running through it. Trains depart hourly in each direction from 06:00 to 23:00ish.nnYou can travel to Romsey or Eastleigh/Southampton Parkway in minutes and from those stations access the rest of the national rail network with ease. In the Salisbury direction the service calls at all the small Southampton stations west of the River Itchen, shortcutting a number of complicated bus routes and also connecting with eastbound rail services.nnThe building, constructed when the station was re-opened, is modern, clean and well maintained with friendly staff. Unfortunately the station building is only open in the morning but there are ticket machines outside.nnThere's plenty of free parking and the only real negative I can think of is the very limited amount of covered waiting space if the weather's bad and the station is unstaffed.
