A lovely pub in a beautiful location. We really enjoyed our pub lunches going up to Yorkshire and coming back down. Excellent service, great food choices all reasonably priced. Highly recommend.Food: 5/5
This is a pub with character, although the dining room is a bit garish. A decent enough ale but not worth going out of your way for. I normally think that the grumpier the chef, the better the food. The chef was particularly grumpy and so I was expecting great things. Turns out my theory is not flawed. The food looked good but was average to taste. Nothing special.
My family and I went last night to celebrate my 70th birthday. Lovely atmosphere, beautiful food. I had the salmon which was very well cooked and tasty. My husband is a marstons pedigree man and said that it was a really good pint of beer. To my surprise they gave me a birthday pudding and sang happy birthday. Staff were all extremely friendly and made sure that we had everything we required all evening. Cannot fault this lovely country pub and we will definitely back to see them soon. Thank you all for such a wonderful evening.
Lovely fresh home cooked food. Really generous portions. Friendly staff, near to no wait time, and good prices. Lovely setting too in a 17th century pub. We'll definitely be back.Food: 5/5
Food was good. Service was quick. It was very dark and extremely warm inside sadly this meant we all got a bit uncomfortable. Not best for small children as little for them to do whilst waiting for food and no real beer garden. Just outdoor seating which backs onto carpark.Food: 4/5
Went out for an evening walk round Calke Abby, dropped in for a quick pint on the way home. Greeted and made to feel very unwelcome as not having a meal, drank up and left never to return.Service: 1/5
What a gem. Driving back the ‘scenic’ route from Derbyshire we stumbled here after dismissing three or four other village pubs. We arrived midweek very early evening and the place was full by 7 and we felt really lucky to have got a table without having booked. The food was terrific, plentiful and very well presented and priced. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Overall a great little find, and we’ll definitely be back to try other things off their very extensive menu. A very enjoyable experience
Stumbled upon this place after a walk around Foremark. I'm so glad we did! Proper traditional pub, warm and welcoming. Lady behind the bar was lovely, super friendly and helpful. We both chose Brie to start, decent portion sizes and cooked properly, with melted brie, no lumps on unmelted. I chose the Smisby chicken, but had it made without prawns, on point, so tasty. Chicken cooked properly. Fresh vegetables cooked properly, not mushy. My husband chose the gammon, he also enjoyed his and couldn't believe the decent portion sizes. Sadly, too full for dessert. Lady did advise us that portions are big, but I'd ordered a separate portion of potatoes, not realising the seasonal vegetable side came with them. Prices are very reasonable, especially given the portion sizes and superb service. Can't wait to go back
Very pleasant, old pub with welcoming atmosphere.Food was very well cooked and quick to table. Service excellent. Would recommend a visit!Food: 4/5
It took about 30 minutes for us to order then another 30 minutes for our food. Definitely not worth the wait but it is a lovely pub. Shame the service isn’t better.Food: 3/5
