Story

Sloppy Joe's was an American Bar and Grill in Hertford from 1985 to 2002 which many folk from the area have very fond memories of. Taking the essence of what made Sloppy Joe's so special but bringing it up to date for 2014 we are returning a firm favorite Hertford hangout back to life!

Our friendly neighborhood bar and diner is a relaxed place where you can grab a bite to eat, quench your thirst, catch a game, entertain the kids (in a place you actually want to be) and catch up with some friends.

The americana inspired food and drinks menu will satisfy all ages from buckets of chicken wings, ribs with bibs, Mexican corner, buckets of beer, jugs of cocktails, mini hot dogs and Blueberry Slush's in our little Dudes and Dudettes menu to our own pulled pork and brisket cooked slow and low in our house Smoker.

Food tasted good. Phenomenal service! The hot dogs in my honest opinion aren't good value for money. Again, they taste good but in comparison to other 'american style diners' who serve similar menus, £9 for a hotdog with a small topping is a bit overkill.  However I'd go again, the hickory BBQ ribs are superb.

Sloppy by name but not by service, had a brilliant dairy free oreo milkshake with a sloppy Joe burger that went down a treat. Very inexpensive meal and would recommend for dining during the week to miss all the rush of the weekend.

We would like to thank Paul, Olly and all the team at Sloppy’s. They made our night a really memorable one. They are a great team. We would highly recommend this place. Private parties are a must…… thanks again WELL Done Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

What happened? The 3 stars is for the food. We were told it was the same chefs since the handover..   so expectedly good. Nice ribs and wings. Unfortunately the drinks menu or lack there of is limited. I remember they used to have a great menu. Anyway, the biggest problem was the service. We were charged for service automatically on the bill. This wouldnt be a problem if there was any service..  we didn't have our waitress check on us, our food, or drinks during our  stay. The young lad behind the bar checked on us once I had gone up to order more drinks. Also, it states on their website it closes at 2300..   they turned off the music and stared closing up well before 2145. Making us feel feel very unwanted. What used to be a great sports bar is a ghost of its former self. Which is a shame. With waitresses making fun of customers that are drinking and having fun with darts, to non existent service and no drinks menus. We won't be returning for a while thats for sure.

I have never eaten anything more abhorrent in 40 years! Through the entire meal straight in the bin. This is my first review of anything ever, I have never been more disgusted  my life. This restaurant should be charged criminally. DISGUSTING!

So, we ordered rack of ribs with BBQ original absolutely fantastic, sides were epic and it was so good we’ve just ordered chicken wings as well! Highly recommend. Delivered hot too!

Terrible food, came here to watch the football and we thought we would get the chicken and chips. Avoid the food!! Eat before or after. The chicken was not cooked, dry and tasteless. The salt and pepper chicken was just chicken covered in salt.

A small bar/venue, with majority incompetent/unhelpful staff with the exception to a small handful who don't care or know what they're doing. Regularly close hours earlier than advertised 3 hours early because "can't be arsed mate, try somewhere else" Raised their prices twice ? In 6 months Would recommend going literally anywhere else only if you can't get into anywhere else and even then only if you have to see it live A shame considering the owner and a couple of the lady's behind the bar are genuinely nice and accommodating but never going back there again and would recommend against going to anyone.

I find this place is a little hit and miss when it comes to food and service. We’ve had takeaways delivered that were cold or missing several parts of the order. The staff were rude and unhelpful when we called to complain.  On the other hand, we’ve eaten in and had great service and food. Great burgers and hotdogs.  Plenty of TV’s, you can see one from pretty much every table if you’re going to watch a game.  Ultimately we find Sloppy’s great to visit but not so great for takeaways/deliveries.

Food here is pretty darn good. The old signs and license plates on the walls are cool too. It's a shame it's such a tiny place. Best to book ahead. It's loud with crowds and they play TV and music at the same time. Being an American themed establishment it would be great if they showed American sports, but I suppose  they need to please the local crowd.
