The massive bull sits with head erect and turned to the right. The artist's original drip-painted technique gave a striated, hair-like texture to the colouring of the bull's hide; sadly, the bull has since been repainted in a rather less interesting uniform red. The eyes are the only spots of different colour; the complete circles of the black pupils standing starkly against the whites, intended to give a look of fierceness. The subject derives from Nandi, the bull ridden by the Hindu god, Shiva. Mistry, who intended the bull to convey an impression of potential power and strength in repose. The artwork was commissioned for the International Garden Festival 1984
Nice statue, lovely setting, beautiful promanode.shame it has been vandalised Needs a nice coating of paint to restore it to original glory. The statue is "Nandi",associated with Lord Shiva, the destroyer,as per Hindu mythology.Any Indian temple will have both Nandi and Shiva linga, statues facing each otherVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Beautiful location and place to jog
Nice place to go and walk and relax, and look at the Mersey. Sometimes you'll catch a beautiful sunset too.
I built many memories around this spot. Very beautiful place
It's great to sit off and have your dinner, just watching the world go by
Always meet nice people/dogs surrounded by exercise activities of others in fabulous setting of mersey
Ye it's a statue of a red bull sitting down don't no what or why its there but its a very large statue and it's very red as you can see, it's in a very large grassed area near to the promenade which runs right through to liverpool docks
Lovely view and great place to sit and enjoy the sun
Spot on Otterspool Promanade with a big pink statue of a bull that seems to be randomly placed there. I think that it may be from the old festival gardens site but there doesn't seem to be any explanatory information in the area. Popular location for cyclists and doggers.
