Popped into the shovel in while glamping with my wife and daughters, and was greeted by a very friendly gent, who made us all feel very welcome. There was a really nice atmosphere feel and the staff were super friendly. Also the food was excellent. Highly recommended if your in the area. Thanks guys for making us feel so welcome.
Nice atmophere here I always enjoy my meal. The staff are always friendly and helpful. They have some great events for all the family and always decorate for events such as Halloween. Defiantly worth a visit. The landlady is very accommodating and always aims to please.
We are on holiday in November weather not too good, however we were driving past The shovel turned around and decided to go in for a quick drink , this was the best decision of the day the welcome even though we had our small dog Tom with us was brilliant, the landlady gave us water and dog biscuits for Tom. We got our drinks not water then decided to have a meal,we both had haddock and chips with mushy peas and the meal was absolutely lovely. The pub is nice and clean with a nice atmosphere and a good landlady with a good sense of humour, I wish my local in Kent was like this one.would recommend this pub don't pass it go into it you wont regret it
Lovely pub, excellent food, good selection of beers, great staff. Well recommended.
My first time, we had lunch, I ordered the cheese and onion pie up there with the best pies I have eaten. Everyone on the table enjoyed the food. The staff was friendly and nice. I will be going again.
Too good to be true... Excellent food and the most delicious pint of Timothy Taylor Boltmaker... well done team
Great food, great atmosphere and lovely staff. We enjoyed the first meal so much we booked immediately for New Years day. Meals were extremely tasty with good portions.
I don't like giving poor reviews, but unfortunately left with no choice. 2 1/2 hours to have a meal with a young child was a bit ridiculous. Quite possibly would have been longer if we had waited for a bill to be brought to the table! Whilst the people serving was nice enough they was clearly too busy to cope. Leaving us without drinks and struggling to order desserts. The food was poor from the outset, having to send back a meal as it wasn't cooked, whilst another one was on the burnt side. Mains was ok, but certainly nothing to shout about and certainly doesn't make us want to visit again. Although staff apologised for the food and slow service it seemed to be quickly cast aside and not really responded to as you might think. Very disappointed.
Excellent service, accepted dogs and even came over with a bowl of water and plenty of strokes for our Border Collie pup X Temp checked when arrived and paper bag given with cutlery and condiments. Food was so tasty, lasagne exceptional. Son wanted chicken with chips and peppercorn sauce , was no trouble to change from menu. Decor was lovely, very warm and welcoming. Would recommend and look forward to returning
If you want proper homemade food this is the place for you. It's outstanding food is the best in the area. Most pub food is frozen but you can tell when a meal has been cooked from scratch like this the chips are fabulous. The Shovels has a lovely friendly atmosphere. The prices are fantastic and it's perfect for families or friends to gather.
