Visited last Friday for a meal. Second visit since The Ship reopened her doors. First being the previous week which due to unforeseen circumstances they were only able to offer drinks. Both occasions we have found staff welcoming, friendly and attentive. Happy to see Neck Oil on tap. When we visited for a meal we were really happy with the food and service. I went for chicken and banana pie and the wife went with the steak pie since mince and tatties is no longer on the menu. She will never let them live that one down. Food was outstanding and even finer details like the presentation were a noticeable change from the ship of old. We were also both impressed with the change of layout with the bar having its own place within the venue separate from the dining area. Good value for money and we will definitely return for both food and drink. Parking: On street park directly outside Wheelchair accessibility: Disabled ramp and seating available on lower level.
We visited a few weeks ago just after reopening ,so looking forward to our visit and it did not disappoint. The decor is lovely and the ambiance and staff very friendly and attentive .We all got a main the chicken cream cheese with pastry ,it was just as we remembered delicious very tasty ,creamed potatoes and veg .We passed on dessert ,the main was enough .it was a lovely lunch .We can’t wait too go back soon .Happy times
The ship Inn was in the past my favourite restaurant in Ayrshire and I was glad to read they had reopened however after today I will never return. First disappointment was the dried out food , my wife had what was described at chicken supreme and I had steak pie, "the big wan " This came really quickly after we ordered ,too quick for my liking suggesting it had been popped into a microwave ,the dried out chicken backing up this theory and the pastry that was on it was soft and unpalatable .She did not finish it as it tasted horrible. I had the £2 extra big wan steak pie , I would not like to see the small wan as i was still hungry after the serving that was presented to me. During our visit our German Shepard sat at our feet until near the end of our meal when it spotted a couple with another dog and barked once a friendly bark to the other dog while wagging it's tail. Then a member of staff walked in while the dog was moving away and it barked a second time, it did not growl ,,I accept that being a big dog he has a big bark and at this point i put a mussel on his mouth so he could not bark again. At this point a man came in and told us to leave, take what we had left and sit in the out door area and finish it there, I pointed out the dog was excited at seeing another dog and now could not bark. We were told it was policy that if a dog barks they have to leave. While outside a couple left and said they agreed with my departing comment that it was outrageous ,they told us that the same man had ordered then about too, Telling them where to sit " if you want to eat ,you need to sit there" They said he should not work in the hospitality industry due to his lack of hospitality. While we were sitting finishing our wine we never actually did as it was freezing outside another couple approached and asked if the pub was open, I told them it was but explained how badly we had been treated and they turned about and walked away. I am glad this happened We had not paid for our meal and could easily have just walked away at this point however I could not do this even though it has been the worst I have ever been treated in over forty years of eating out. My wife went in and paid and they had the brass neck to add on a 10% tip to the bill. We should not have been paying for such bad food and we certainly should not be paying a service charge when clearly this is something that they forgot to include when they reopened
It’s so good to see the Ship open and buzzing again. We enjoyed a lovely family lunch with top service and great food. Our eldest daughter particularly loved the pastry on the steak pie, and between us we happily demolished several portions of crab cakes the accompanying katsu sauce was ace. Chris and the new team were working well together and there was a great atmosphere from start to finish. The revamped decor is gorgeous and our youngest daughter was most impressed with the beautiful toilets! Highly recommend and we are looking forward to many visits Kid-friendliness: The children’s menu was great and our daughters were happy with portion sizes and everything they ate, thank you.
Visited the Ship a few days ago hoping to have lunch. Booked a table for 1.30 and after going for a walk returned at the set time. Unfortunately I can’t comment on the food at all. We were shown to our table, given menus and told by the member of staff that he would return to take our drinks order. However we were still waiting after 20 minutes at which time I approached the said member of staff to ask if they were in fact serving. I just got a sullen look and he walked away. We waited another 10 minutes and gave up. On departing we spoke to someone presumed to be a manager to inform him that this was our first visit to the Ship since it’s reopening but it would be our last. We then walked the few metres along the road to GRO where we knew we would have excellent food served by attentive and friendly staff. I would suggest to the management of the Ship that if they hope to reestablish themselves that they send their staff on courses for efficiency and customer care.
Fabulous to be back at this venue. We've missed you! The big yin did not disappoint, neither did the chicken and banana ! pie. Thankfully had room for dessert and the lemon posset was decadently light and the shortbread was melt in the mouth. My OH had the apple pie and was delighted it came with custard and not just ice cream as is usual for establishments of late. Cannot wait for a return visit.
So great to have it back open again. Looks stunning, but somehow retains the old charm and character from 3 years ago. Best pub in Irvine
Newly refurbished but still retains it character. Food was great as well as the fast service. Highly recommended.Food: 5/5
Had the ‘wee wan’ steak pie which was far from wee! Big golden puff pastry top with a generous steak and gravy filling. Delicious. Excellent service and comfortable friendly atmosphere.
Hi we have just been for lunch at this fine establishment!! Omg the meals were amazing! My husband got the famous Big Wan steak pie and believe me it was enormous and so tasty ! With mash potatoes and veg it could have easily fed 2 people!! I got the fish and chips and the fish was the size of my plate with lovely chips and peas with homemade tartar sauce !! Definitely best fish and chips we’ve had in a restaurant. Well done ship inn youse are back claiming your place back on top . Big thank you to the staff very welcoming and service with a smile . We have booked my birthday for 10 of us and we can’t wait !! See youse soon xx
