Amanda who also runs the well established Rock Inn in Porthcawl is now undertaking a new venture in the form of the Ship & Castle seeing her return to the pub that her parents run (also under the name Ship & Castle) in the 1980's. Formly known as The Salthouse on the Square, Amanda in association with Punch Tavern's, has made a substaintial investment that has seen the Ship & Castle undergo an extensive redevelopment and refurbishment in order to give the pub a new lease of life and bring something new and exciting to Porthcawl. Photos to be uploaded soon.

The food offered consists of a exciting selection of freshly prepared dishes created and overseen by renowned, two Rosette winning Chef Stuart Bevan. everything will be sourced as locally as possible and only the freshest ingredients will used. Traditional favourites, daily specials, Sunday Lunches and a children's menu will also be avilable.

Now called Saltwater Inn. If you are not local it's not on the main sea front but just off one of the side streets. Close to public car parking. We chose here as one of our group had her dog with her. We visited twice during our holiday in the area and both visits were good. Friendly staff, nice layout inside and out with seating nicely spaced. Menu is good with a few options for vegetarians and vegans plus GF options too. Portions are pretty generous! Good selection of drinks. Prices good. Would return if in the area again.

Hadn' t booked just went in on the hop. Friendly waiter showed us to a table. They were busy that day, so the food took a while to come once ordered. The food was worth waiting for to be fair. Staff were chatty and friendly. Great place. Highly recommend The Salt Water Inn. It was called Ship & Castle a long time ago.

My favourite place to get gluten free fish and chips. The size of their maxi cod is more than you can ask and it's always cooked to perfection. It also comes in a small too. I habent tried that size though. I have also added a photo of the gluten free options as it is easier to see it all together which you can see is pretty good. Wide range of stuff. The staff here are very friendly and are happy to answer any questions. One thing I would say is to ensure you get a table I would recommend booking a table as it is very popular here especially in the evenings/ weekends.

Never had a bad meal there, the staff are super friendly and will try and accommodate you in any way possible, but please book a table first as the guys don't like to disappoint and turn people away. You may have a slight wait at busy times but it's worth it.

I beleive this astablishment has changed name it's called the salt water inn .Lovely place to have food, reasonable priced and absolutely lovely had fish and chips or should I say whale and chips .will definitely be going back as the other food looked delicious also
