Shikumen Shepherd's Bush

About

Shikumen blends East with West offering elegance, refinement, creativity and quality for exceptional value for money. Welcome to your gateway to the East.

Story

Shikumen (石库门) translates to “stone gate” and is a style of housing unique to Shanghai. This arched housing blends Chinese and Western structural styles and was popular in the 1950s following colonial influence.

We invite you to enter our gateway to the east as we continue the tradition to blend the east with the west with Shikumen restaurants.

Our food and service reflect the architecture of Shikumen’s elegance, refinement, creativity and of course quality. We source our ingredients carefully to bring diners produce of the highest quality and serve them for exceptional value for money.

Notable dishes are our truly authentic Peking Duck cooked according to an ancient recipe and served meticulously at your table by Chefs from Peking. The first of two servings are served with handmade pancakes and baos made daily by one dedicated chef. We offer unusual dishes such as Soft Shell Crab in Almond Butter Egg Sauce, Braised Chicken with Radish and Sweet Basil and Clay Pot Tofu with Morel Mushrooms in Black Bean Sauce.

We are especially proud of our handmade Dim Sum selection where each special flavour depends on the material selection, ingredients, mixing, kneading and rolling for example Our Tianjin Goubuli Bun must have no less than 18 pleats.

Our Cheung Fun selection offers both fried and steamed dough sticks and we have a variety of Congee including the deliciously savoury Century Egg and Pork Congee.

Shikumen is the new concept from the JRC Group

Highly recommend the Crab with Stir-fried Rice Cake at this spot! The crab was remarkably fresh, and the rice cakes were soft and delightfully chewy. Also gave the Dry Stir-fried Beef Hor Fun and Farmer’s Stir-fry Pork a try, and both dishes were impressive. Definitely worth a try!Food: 5/5
Went for dinner last night fridauy evening with close friends 6 adults and 3 kids 3/5 years old. The ambiance is good enough and styled as a Chinese/ western fusion of styles. The fact that the place was empty we had a room all to ourselves with 5 other large tables empty, with only a handful of other tables occupied during the evening, tells miles on the place, especially considering the vast amount of people in an extremely busy Shepherd's Bush on a normal Friday evening. I was utterly unimpressed by the food which was quite bland to be such a posh place and with such impresive array of choice, which includes dishes from many regions of China and not just the Cantonese fare that most Chinese restaurants offer here in the Kingdom of Blighty, I was expecting flavoursome dishes. Instead everything seemed to taste the same, sweet and sour ribs tasted of braised soy sauce, duck tasted of not much else than generic meat with zero flavour despite the crispy skin... the fish was covered in chillies and one could barely feel the flavour of it I ate the same in many places in China, not to mention most of Europe capitals, and I assure you, that is not what it is supposed to taste!. The service is still top class in my opinion but the cost cutting is very visible in the food and ambience who were clearly designed and built for much more people attending at the same time. It felt empty and soulless at times with poor choice of drinks. I cannot comment on price since I was invited and did not pay, but, regardless of the prices, I would probably not condsider this place to go out with friends on a casual night. there are better places literally a few paces away, in such competitive location the place needs to be exceptional just to have a small edge on other restaurants. Anyway, try it if you like to dine alone, it is not too bad.
Very decent food and atmosphere for one of the higher-end Chinese restaurants in London. Peking Duck and Yanduxian soup were definitely on point. Seafood was fresh and some of the other dishes were quite good as well. The familiarity of the restaurant’s atmosphere and cleanliness to those of the ones in China also make it an ideal spot to bring your family from back home when they visit ;
I just indulged in a few bites of crab meat tofu paired with bread, and it was heavenly! The tofu was silky smooth and perfectly seasoned, complemented by the rich crab meat. The bread's crust was toasty and crunchy, soaking up all the delicious broth, with a fluffy, soft interior that was just irresistible. I couldn't help but take several big bites and totally skipped the scale today.
Roast duck is a must! Possibly the top 3 roast duck in London. Si xi kao fu is highly recommended as well. Very good service, nice environment and clean bathroom! Probably the most authentic Shanghai cuisine in London so far.Food: 5/5

A very family friendly restaurant. Fast service and comfy seats for young children. We all like the stir fry dishes and baozi. It’s also spacious for pushchairs.Food: 5/5
We have been here for the third time. And each time the service has been amazing and the food is brilliant. Emily has been welcoming in a very kind and professional way. It’s been a lively evening and we will come back soon.Food: 5/5
Went here while staying at the Dorsett Hotel. The food was incredible. We will certainly come back to try moreFood: 5/5
one of the rare restaurants that offer Traditional Shanghainese cuisine, close to the Westfield Shepperd's Bush, the Drunken Chicken and Mandarin Fish are quite authentic and worth a try. Besides there's also Peking Duck on the menu!
