Story

The Sandpiper Inn is a free house owned by husband and wife Jonathan & Janine Harrison since 1999. Every care has been taken to establish a friendly, welcoming and effective business with the main emphasis being to serve quality food using the finest local ingredients wherever possible.

The 17th century, ivy-clad inn has a cosy bar with a roaring lit fire for those colder months and a well laid out dining room offering a tranquil and enjoyable experience. The sunny terrace is a place where you can enjoy our range of traditional and international food specialities renowned amongst our visitors and peacefully take pleasure in watching the little town of Leyburn go about its day!

Lovely meal from start to finish!nThe members of staff were very friendly, we had a lovely chat with one of the ladies about food recommendations and local activities.nnWe ordered:nCheese soufflé - absolutely stunningnFillet steak- beautifully cooked to our liking, seasoned well and accompanied by delicious chips and salad. I changed my chips for dauphinois.nCreme brûlée- absolutely gorgeous, lovely vanilla custard with the perfect caramelised top served with a homemade ginger biscuit.nnCan’t recommend this place enough, great food, wine and service!
I dont usually do what I'd call 'posh' grub but what a surprise and a most excellent meal from start to finish. Cracking service too, well worth a visit
Stunning meal and right from the beginning we got welcoming vibes. I rang on Friday afternoon on the off chance and were made to feel so welcome by the lady I assume is the owner. During our meal she was so attentive and genuinely caring. The food was absolutely sublime we had the Lamb and Beef cheek. It was so tender and delicious. We would certainly return if lucky to be in the area again… Sticky toffee pudding alone deserves some sort of prize. Thank you
It’s rare to find superb dishes imaginative and delicious in a place that’s elegant but very friendly, with a warm welcome from the owners and great service from the staff. We had a wonderful evening meal. We recommend the asparagus starter, the black pudding starter, the lamb main so tender and the mushroom tart main. We hope to come back soon. The Dales are stunning and the Sandpiper is a gem.
We were accomodated at very short notice and enjoyed a lovely evening and great food. I had the braised beef cheek, which I cannot praise highly enough, melted in your mouth. Followed by bramble and apple crumble with vanilla ice cream.nA special thanks to all of the staff who were so helpful. We will be back.
