Reviews
This is my second review of the hostel - our feedback is listened to.nnOn my first visit & review during Christmas I highlighted a rather disappointing experience about the service of staff & cleanliness.nnThis is my second visit and I'm very happy saying they improved everything I mentioned. I now feel valued both as a customer as well as my effort of writing the feedback.nnI'm attaching the reply of management of my initial review - they did keep their word.nService was greatly improved, felt welcomed, main sitting area & rooms were much tidier and overall having a much better experience.nnMakes me happy when businesses listen to our constructive feedback and act upon it.nnThank you. Will now revisit.
The person who welcomed us upon arrival was really nice and helpful.nWe were supposed to have a triple room with a double bed and a bunk bed but we finally had a a double bed only. However the room was nice and spacious.nToo bad that some people made a lot of noise at night: a girl yelling in the corridor.nThe lift really needs repairing because it is quite uncomfortable when we have big luggage.nI come with a group of students late April and I really hope that the lift will be in service and that all our rooms will be on the same floor.nOther than that, it's really a nice place and the location is great with many buses, even at night, and the underground is not far either.
**DIRTY & DID NOT FEEL SAFE & MANAGEMENT DID NOT CARE - DO NOT STAY HERE**nnUnfortunately, there was a disturbance in our room at 3am - one of the other guests on drugs/having a psychotic episode and was screaming/shouting and physically threatening other roommates. Obviously the hostel cannot control who books to stay, but they do control how to respond. I went to reception and they did not seem to care - but offered a room swap when I asked for it. When I advised that there was a vulnerable woman in the room who was crying as a result and was herself very upset, they didn’t do anything the security guard was in no way interested and continued playing games on his phone. There was a threatening and potentially dangerous man in the room AND THEY DID NOTHING. Furthermore, when I went to my new room, someone had already been using my bed, so I had to go down and change rooms for a second time. When I got to my third room, the bed was available, but the duvet and pillows not the sheets - the actual duvet & pillow were not fresh - they were very smelly. The whole experience was very unsettling and I did not feel safe at all - and I have stayed in many youth hostels before.nnOn top of this, the rooms were ridiculously hot even with the windows open, and the bathrooms in particular were very dirty.nnI did give SafeStay time to respond to my complaint privately before making this review as I emailed on Wednesday, but I did not receive a reply.nnThe hostel was far from a safe-stay, and I would not recommend them
This review refers to room 022, which we booked as a private room for a group of eight for four nights.nnThe room itself was very tidy, as were the toilet and shower within the room. The mattresses were somewhat worn out, but within the expected standard for a hostel. I had made myself paranoid by reading other reviews beforehand and thoroughly inspected everything for bedbugs, but none were present. A positive aspect was that towels were provided for all of us. However, it became somewhat uncomfortable over the days as the room grew increasingly stuffy and humid. This was mainly because the window couldn't be fully opened, and the bathroom ventilation only worked semi-reliably. A suggestion for the hostel: providing guests with a squeegee could help them clean up excess water in the bathroom.nnWe also booked breakfast, which was more than reasonable in terms of price and value. There was a small selection of cereals, typical cold cuts and spreads, toast, warm chocolate croissants, fruit, eggs, and beans, along with two large coffee machines and orange juice.nnRegarding other reviews, I can’t necessarily confirm their criticisms. At no point did we feel unsafe even late at night when some of us arrived very late, as only hostel residents have access to the rooms. While there were some individuals in the lobby who stayed for extended periods, slept there, or charged their devices, they were always well-kept, quiet, and merely seeking shelter from the November cold.nnOverall, this hostel absolutely meets expectations and offers good accommodation for a short trip to London.
We were staying for a few nights as a group of four, and had booked an entire room of 4 beds.nIt is a low budget hostel and that is what you get, but there were still a few things that were not that great:n1. We had a door that did not close properly on its own and one time the housekeeping left our door unlocked. The Reception attendee unfortunately did not really see it as a problem or did not seem like they would do anything about it. Thankfully nothing was missing in our room and it did not happen again. The door still had to be manually closed.n2. The shared bathrooms and toilets unfortunately were not that clean. Almost every time you did not get in directly after housekeeping alls sorts of hair was found in the sinks and toilet. The bathrooms have mold this is a general hostel problem, but it’s still a lot and we’re generally not that clean.n3. The common area and outside area, basically the entrance area, were 24/7 reeking of weed. While not having a problem with weed, it was a lot. Maybe assign a smoking area at the gate?n4. For whatever reason the lifts had stopped working as soon as we arrived, thankfully we had packed light.nnGenerally we would have liked a table maybe one of those wall mounted ones and chairs in the rooms. And would probably next time try to book a room with a private bathroom; if we would opt for an extra low budget option again.nnPositives were the generally friendly staff at check in. And whenever we found the water dispenser empty, staff would fill it again after asking.nnThe location is amazing for the price!
