Royal Oak Inn

About

A traditional Lakeland Inn in the heart of the lake district

Story

The Royal Oak is a small, busy, family run Inn with a warm welcoming atmosphere for the walker, tourist and business visitor alike. Our traditional Inn is non-smoking throughout, and with no late residents bar last orders are at 11pm weekdays and 12pm weekends. We are long standing member of CAMRA with a minimum of five real ales at any one time.
Situated in the very heart of Bowness on Windermere, The Royal Oak is literally a stone's throw from the Bowness Bay piers, where you can take in the stunning views across Lake Windermere and perhaps board a steamship cruise. We are only a few minutes' walk from the many traditional craft and gift shops and only five minutes from The World of Beatrix Potter. Our Inn is proud to say it is the official finishing point of Alistair Wallace's 'The Dalesway Walk' and the starting point of his guide 'The Lake to Lake Walk'. The Royal Oak has a variety of double rooms most en-suite with the exception of two which share a bathroom and for which bathrobes are provided. Each room has tea/coffee making facilities, radio alarm clock, TV and a hair dryer. Free Wi-Fi connection is available. Whilst our rooms vary in size, they are, without exception, extremely comfortable and are traditionally styled with a homely feel. We are widely renowned for our kind hearted hospitality and, of course, for 'The Royal Oak Full English' breakfast! Evening meals are offered and car parking is available. All our meals are prepared from the fresh, locally sourced, ingredients. Please ring in advance with any specific dietary requirements (015394 43970).

A Bowness regular for us. Traditional pub feel. Been many times for the excellent real ale. Only a few yards from the main drag but seems to be missed by many tourists. Went for a pint from Purity Brewery.but it was sour, so they changed it to Swan brewery Blond. Very good. Staff handled it very well. From Madrid! Good real ale selection.
We popped in for lunch with our 2 dogs and we had a wonderful experience. They provided biscuits and a bowl of water for the dogs. Lovely choice of ales for us, not the dogs! And delicious food. Cosy and welcoming pub and very friendly staff.
Lovely clean pub, with amazing staff, dog friendly and tasty food! It was really sweet that they brought biscuits and water to our table, for the dogs. Definitely recommend!Rooms: 5/5
Great place for food or just a drink . Got some good real ales on. I ended up having the full selection in the end on 2 visits . There is a lovely fire on you, allowing you to put wood on yourself.Service: 5/5
Service and atmosphere was good. Good range of cask ales. Timothy Taylor Landlord was spot on but had to send a pint of Moorhouse White witch back because it was sour.Service: 5/5

A lovely pub in Bowness. The service is excellent and they treat your dog as a customer not as a problem. Can't recommend enough.Service: 4/5
Slightly away from the Main Street this little gem has excellent service, a decent pint and some pretty delicious food. If I didn’t live 7 hours away I’d be back soon.
Stopped off for Sunday Roast while holidaying nearby. Beautiful meal, well presented and great value for money. Lovely welcome fro Andrew . Food & drinks: Fantastic
We always call in here when we visit Bowness and are never disappointed. Food drink and service are always exemplary. Would like to go in summer to take advantage of the outside seating area which always looks invitingService: 5/5
