Story

The Royal Alexandra Hospital for Sick Children is a children's hospital located within the grounds of the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton in the English county of East Sussex. It provides outpatient services, inpatient facilities, intensive care and a 24-hour emergency care service for children referred by GPs and other specialists. The Royal Alexandra Hospital for Sick Children originally stood on Dyke Road in the Montpelier area of Brighton. Local architect Thomas Lainson's red-brick and terracotta building, in the Queen Anne style, was opened by the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1881. It remained in use for more than a century before being replaced by a new building at the main Royal Sussex County Hospital site. The new facility opened in June 2007, and has won architectural awards for its innovative design. The future of the Dyke Road site has been uncertain since the move to the new premises was first considered in 2001; Lainson's buildings and their later additions were threatened with demolition until 2009, when a developer was refused planning permission to replace the hospital with flats. Brighton & Hove City Council's latest planning briefs state that any redevelopment of the site should incorporate Lainson's original building.

Staff overstretched and entire A&E is understaffed. Waiting times on two occasions 5 and 7 hours. Waiting rooms overcrowded, often with sickly children exposing others to potential contagion. Lack of estimates to be seen means once admitted you will be stuck in this environment where all distancing is impossible for several hours.nStaff is good once being seen, receptionists always polite and welcoming. This environment and waiting times need to be reviewed and addressed. Create a system to triage patients, avoid overcrowding of the areas ticketing system? An app? Text the patients 30 minutes before being seen?. Some consideration should be given to new mothers too, some are straight post-op and can’t wait this length of time without proper food or areas to be seated, others need a safe space to express or feed their children, not all feel comfortable in overcrowded dirty facilities, yet once admitted you are unlikely to be able to leave so often leading to being unable to express. Come prepared with plenty of formula or bottles, breast pads changes for a good 7 hours if you choose this hospital.
We had to take our 6 year old daughter here this evening.nnEvery member of staff we met was so friendly, great with children, explained to us and her what the steps would be. We are all so grateful to everyone.nnFrom the first nurse in triage to all the nurses coming in to do observations and the two doctors that helped her. Thank you very much, you are all incredible and we have one much happier daughter.
I was 14 at the time of surgery, i had fractured my knee, they sent me to royal alexandra hospital for scans and after just 2 days i had surgery. They offered me a room with a bed to rest till i wait for surgery, and if i got bored i could just go to the teen play area just a couple steps away. when the time of surgery, i was worried but they comforted me. after the surgery they gave me free food i pre ordered which was free of charge, i was in a little pain when i woke up but they quickly assisted me to the correct medication,nAlso toys for all ages every warenOverall a great loving staff and quick responding as well, they made the scary surgery feel like nothing, would 100% recommend 5starsnThank you for your support!!!!
