You will find Rose Street Brewery in Edinburgh within a short stroll of Princes Street - however you won't find another like it.

Step in to discover a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food, which are served, as they should be, with a generous measure of famous British hospitality.

A FASCINATING PAST

Rose Street Brewery is situated on Rose Street and stands in Edinburgh’s New Town, which was built when a competition was held back in 1766. The challenge went out to architects; “Let us boldly enlarge Edinburgh to the utmost.” It was won by a 23-year-old named James Craig.

The area has a long and interesting history. Thistle Street and Rose Street were built originally for the artisans of the New Town, although in an inferior style and of rougher workmanship than the main streets. But by the mid 1800s, Rose Street had established itself as a drinking oasis and this reputation is proudly upheld today.

ONE OF A KIND

Rose Street Brewery at 55 Rose Street was founded in August 1983 in the former White Cockade public house by the Alloa Brewery Co. Ltd. The first floor, which was once home to the brewery that produced the renowned Auld reekie Ale, now houses the Brewhouse Restaurant. The brewing industry certainly contributed to Edinburgh’s earned moniker of “Auld Reekie” so named due to all the smoke produced by coal and wood burning furnaces and boilers. Auld Reekie is a traditional nickname for Edinburgh, the word reek meaning smoke.

My favourite date night restaurant and pub downstairs. I love everything about it. The food is pricey but worth the price point IMO. Well done!
I had Christmas Day lunch here with my wife and two daughters. The dinner was absolutely beautiful over 5 courses. The bar/ restaurant is in a central location in the new town with just a ten minute walk to the old town 'royal mile' which is a must when visiting Edinburgh. The staff are friendly and menu reasonably priced. 5 stars from me.
Had a delicious meal at the Rose Street Brewery! It fills up so go early, around 6pm. We had the Haggis, Neeps and Tatties - proper Scottish and yummy. The sweet potato and goat cheese pie was amazing. Everybody had great food. Great service too!
A lovely story is attached to this place. You should go to check it out. Nice food in a great location. Friendly and helpful staff. Ordered a steak but was over cooked. Staff were quick to fix the issue and got me a new freshly made one. Great selection of drinks. Overall, a lovely atmosphere. I highly recommend the haggies, neeps and tattis.
Would give it a 4.5 if I could, only due to the long time it took for the food to be served and also for the fact that the rare steak we ordered was more like a medium rare. Wine bottle prices seem ridiculously high with limited options. Costs more than the meal. We opted for the glass 250ml. The service was very good and friendly. The food was very delicious and worth their not-so-expensive prices.
Nice pub with very friendly, competent and caring staff. The waitress asked for allergies before taking our order. I have a nut allergy, so she made sure the dish I wanted to order was safe and there isn't a risk of any cross contamination by other food prepared in the kitchen. I even got seperate cutlery. I've very seldom received such an attentive treatment. On top of that, the food was amazing. I can recommend the very delicious pies and the Cranachan. We loved it so much, we came back the very next day for more.
Super friendly service. Loud rock music blasting from the kitchen was a little off-putting and unprofessional. The haggis stack was bland and the steak pie a bit dry. Haddock was good, as was the ocean catch.
Came across this pub/restaurant by chance after a day at Edinburgh zoo, what a find! Nice clean restaurant upstairs above the pub, really pleasant waitress and excellent food, hot and plenty of it. The Crofters pie was delicious. Can recommend.
Had a lovely dinner here, the staff was sooooo friendly and welcoming, the food was really tasty and good. The place is really cute, will definitely be back!
Great experience! Trying to find a place to eat dinner on a Sunday night during Fringe was a pain, but Rose Street Brewery had space and was incredibly accommodating. The customer service was great and our waitress was lovely. The food was also very good. One big plus of this restaurant is that the dining room is separate to the main pub room, so it's quieter/less rowdy. If you want the traditional pub experience without dealing with too much chaos, I would highly recommend.
