I found The Riviera Hotel to be a very well organised hotel. From booking in to providing information. It was busy as there were several coaches there the weekend I stayed. The food in the dining room which was buffet style was good and the items were continually refreshed.nThe hotel is in good location close to the beach and shops.nMy friend and I upgraded our room to a refurbished room and further upgraded to a room with a patio on the ground floor.nBecause of how the hotel sits on a slope of a hill...our room was actually lower then reception and accessed by a lift or stairs going down..nOur room was a good size and had all that we needed except for a fridge.
Eight of us have just been on a Turkey and Tinsel break for 5 days. Cannot fault the hotel at all. Food was excellent and plenty of choice too. Cabaret and the room it's in was excellent. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. The only downside was the location as its on an incline from the seafront. There's a lovely little bus that comes from near the Wetherspoons up to the hotel which was a Godsend for me. All in all a great break away.
Stay was part of a 4 day break package marketed by Majestic tours. On arrival the concierge informed us that the room booked was substandard but clean however, for £30 we could up grade to a better room with a walk-in shower or for £60 a room with WiFi. We took the £30 option. The room and shower were both to an acceptable standard. Other than breakfast the food was awful, old school meal standard, even the bread rolls were stale. The room cleaning service was scheduled for the second day of the stay and announced by a banging on the door at 9am as we were preparing to go to the coach for a day tour. The cleaner insisted on cleaning the room there and then. Which was both inconvenient and annoying. The hotel noise in the room was a constant to late in the night. The Queen tribute act was over amplified and the singer would be better employed in mime. Location was only a short walk to the beach and a reasonable walking distance from the town. We are of the opinion it would have been better to have used a hotel chain and eaten out in the wide range of good restaurants available in Torquay centre. The tours arranged were very good despite the poor comfort of the coach which was hired by Majestic, we were informed by the driver the coach was owned by Watkins Coaches sub contracted by Majestic Tours who did not own any coaches themselves.
Stayed here with a group of lads from our skittles team where we all enjoyed our stay at this hotel.nThe room i had was very spacious and warm. We used the swimming pool a couple of times, its very small but as long as there's not too many in there then great!nMeal times, waitresses were brilliant, making us all feel welcome, cleaning away used plates pretty quick too.nThe Sports Bar, plenty of tv's which is good but sadly the Worthy beer was awful. So we didn't spend too much time drinking there. Went off to other bars instead, which is sad really cos the bar itself is a really nice place.nShowbar was nice, had a couple of tribute artists, Elton John & Rod Stewart, good singers but didn't sound like them. Diva night, young artist was excellent!nOverall, very happy with our 3 night visit, the only downer was the beer.
Paid £30 for upgrade room extra wide king size but made up of two singles put together plus side nice large Walk in power shower.nLocated on a hill okay going down poor coming back for less mobility people but land train stops outside.nFood menu poor with not much choice says cold option but never seen one waiter service only at breakfast bringing hot drinks slow to take away dirty pottery.nChef quite miserable tight with his portions on carving meats like he was paying for it.nEntertainment ok but spoiled by uncomfortable chairs.nDrinks expensive not bad pay out on bingo if you win.nPool not very warm not much chlorine in water.nAll meals are buffet service and not waiter service.nOn the whole budget hotel serving school dinner meals ok if you like it cheap and spending time mingling with old folks wishing you morning every time you pass in narrow corridor which after a day or two gets on your nerves
