A relatively modest and smaller cathedral compared to some of the larger cathedrals, but this cathedral has a lovely homely and warm feeling about it. I received a good warm Yorkshire welcome when I visited Ripon Cathedral last month. The cathedral is also home to some amazing beautiful stained glass windows and a four manual Harrison & Harrison pipe organ. There are also some very interesting wood carvings and a crypt which is well a visit underneath the cathedraI. I would definitely recommend anyone who is visiting the area to visit this beautiful cathedraI church and the historic city of Ripon, cathedral city the dales.
A lovely cathedral steeped in fantastic history. Although our visit coincided with filming for the BBC’s Easter Sunday broadcast, which meant some areas were restricted, the experience was still very enjoyable. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout. We’ll definitely be returning to explore the parts we missed!
Went on a whim while the weather made it's mind up. Thankfully the sun came out and lit up the cathedral and the stained glass windows for us. Free to enter but you can donate if you want to and they ask for a £3 donation if you want to take photos. Interesting and beautiful if old buildings and Cathedrals are your thing. Had a lovely brew with a view at the cafe aptly named Cathedral View over the road afterwards.
An underrated spot. Even if you aren't particularly religious, the history of the place is incredible—the Saxon crypt is over 1,300 years old and feels like stepping back into another world. It’s much more intimate than some of the massive cathedrals, which makes it feel a bit more peaceful and less like a tourist trap.nThe architecture is stunning, especially the medieval woodcarvings apparently they inspired Lewis Carroll for Alice in Wonderland. It’s a very calm, welcoming place to just sit and think for a bit. Definitely worth a stop if you’re wandering through Ripon.
Beautiful cathedral, the highlight for me was the stained glass, it was breathtaking. Just be aware, you have to pay a £3 charge to take photos and you have to get a little sticker from the shop to wear.
