Not a bad station. Access is easy by foot or car and it’s close to the town too. Approach paths, roads, station, toilets male and platforms were clean. Knocked it down a star because despite COVID restrictions being lifted for a while, they have chosen to keep the Platform 1 Waiting Room closed, so there is nowhere to keep warm and the wind whistles down the platform and through the inside as the doors don’t close. Anther star was removed because the options at The Stottie Company were poor little in the way of healthy food and zero vegan options and it was the only place to buy food at the station. Middlesbrough a small city, not much of a city you'd expect. But the people are friendly, and cost of things are somewhat lower.
The Middlesbrough train station is well structured in terms of the waiting area, lift, and walkway for the wheel chair, there's rest room and a section to keep your bicycle
A small station compared to others; although it's not busy; friendly staff at the desk; although I didn't notice any security walking around?... 1 shop inside; and 2 vending machines; Pretty clean place with well placed bins
This is a lovely old station, trains run frequently, friendly staff and very clean and tidy. Free toilet facilities. Small shop on site too.
More recently the station is transforming in to a cold dump. The toilets have been vandalised but instead of taking steps to stop the vandalism TPE just close them and make life difficult for all station users. The staff on the station are just plain miserable and if they can avoid offering any help to passengers they do. The stations main user is Northern. And you get the impression at this station that both companies are at war as TPE staff will not help northern passengers. The only bright light at this dump is stottie cafe. The staff in here could teach the TPE staff a few tricks on how to smile and offer a customer focused service. Shame on you TPE for this station!!!
Ladies toilets are a problem. Quite often at least 1 toilet doesn't work, at the moment all 4 toilets have broken locks so no privacy unless you have a heavy bag to block the door. Not good enough
Train station itself is fine. I've used it for decades. However Worst condition toilets I have ever seen in any country, any continent Absolutely disgusting.
While I understand that Middlesbrough does have a lot of construction going on as of right now the town itself is not exactly the best, especially for the citizens who are not in the uni, since it seems the town is currently centred on students and the experience they bring to the town, the good and the bad, I was also surprised to know that it is indeed a town and not in fact a city even though the town from the maps clearly should be.
On the daytime, someone still can steal people bike wheel at the front of British transport police station… what i can say…
