Rooms - rooms are a good size if you are only going to use the room as a place to wash and sleep on a weekend exploring the area. My room was compact but did have everything you needed and was clean. Service - the bar/restaurant was clean and the staff were really helpful as well as being well mannered. The food was really good and as I was staying with them for 5 days I had the opportunity to try a wide range of their dishes, meat and vegan. The vegan cheese burger I found really good and the taste be it not meat it was a really good tasting meal and I would order it again. And the best bit about the pub is it's a dog friendly pub with good dog meals.
Super nice atmosphere and friendly staff, and food was great quality, but the portion size of the roast pork sandwich £12 with chips and gravy was just embarrassing, a single slice of pork in a medium size bun, and a portion of chips that was about 2/3 the size of my friends bowl of chips £3.50. In other words, I paid over £8.50 for the for-mentioned sandwich and a very small jug of gravy - and a pretty tasty little bit of salad. I wasn’t even that hungry, but could have easily eaten double the serving. Don’t get me wrong, the food was really good. But for 12 quid, I’d expect to be full after cleaning my plate. Will return for a pint, but next time I’ll eat at home.
This is a beautiful pub in an amazing location. The food was spectacular. The haddock chowder was so tasty and filling. The steak pie was one of the best pies I've ever tasted. Definitely worth the price. Sticky toffee pudding and bread and butter pudding were a little small but the quality justified the price. Plus we were stuffed so appreciated a smaller dessert!
Had a 3 night stay as a base for touring North Yorkshire. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Staff were all fantastic, especially on our first night when the hotel & restaurant were full they were very short staffed but coped admirably. Meals were tasty with generous portions. It was the breakfasts where they stand head & shoulders above many higher rated hotels. A large choice of hot food all cooked to order, miles better than buffet style breakfasts. Bar prices were a little high but nothing to be too concerned about. Would definitely stay again when in the area.
Visited today for Christmas dinner and it didn’t disappoint. Was a lovely place and the food was excellent. Staff were also so friendly and very attentive. Also as a bonus they allowed us to bring our dog so the whole family was together for a lovely meal.Service: 5/5
Absolutely fantastic Sunday roast! Granted I don't care about the vegetables but still, tasted heavenly. Plenty of friendly staff on hand and super dog friendly. Couldn't have wished for a better place to find after a long walkService: 5/5
Went on New Years Eve for a meal primarily because it's dog friendly and local. Have dined here a lot over the years but stopped going pre pandemic when the chef left and the menu changed it was nowhere near as good. Unfortunately this time around the food was very very average and bland definitely not worth the £65 we paid - we've had much better food in cafés lately at a fraction of the price. The menu is also extremely uninspiring although the place itself is charming cosy and the service is OK- that said having to order the food at the bar is a bit of a pain considering the amount of waitresses on duty. The car park is very tight indeed and parking was made even more of a problem by the ridiculous and blinding spotlight. Hopefully you will take these comments on board as this place could and should be a lot better.
Great Pub with good food drinks and accommodation. We had our first ever experience of the famous Parmo and Wow, as others have said, it's a big portion! Fortunately for my girlfriend they do offer a smaller portion, which also would have been ok for me. The room we stayed in was a good size, with a comfortable four poster bed and a great bathroom with bath and shower. Great breakfast too with good selection. Staff friendly and helpful.
The food was cold and below par The mash potato probably smash The set up at the bar is reminiscent of a care home with the wing back chairs and no social Incusion as they all face the same way. Some of the seating at tables is not appropriate for dining at tables, too low. Not a lot of atmosphere Service was good, but not busy, so Didn't see rooms, so I can't advise and no option to score appropriately
Very friendly and welcoming staff. Very cosy and comfy feel to the place. They allow dogs and even bother with them without you feeling awkward. Lovely food, excellent chips!!
