Reviews
I last reviewed this pub 4 years ago as a 3/4 star. Having been going more frequently recently, I'm updating my review to a solid 5. The decor inside the pub is a throwback to how all pubs used to be see video and is maintained and looked after throughout. The current owners are extremely welcoming to anyone who passes through the front or back door. There is space to go as a large group or just with a friend or even on your own as there are plenty of locals there. There is a rear outdoor seating area/smoking area overlooking the canal. The facilities are looked after and they smell clean. The beer selection is quite accommodating for all tastes and it tastes clean too. The drink selection is vast if you like certain spirits or mixers, this is a place for you. With a TV in the largest area of the bar, which provided well during the 2022 World Cup. Staff look after and accommodate all. The locals are very welcoming and friendly. In the summer there is an area downstairs which has benches, next to the canal too. A short walk from the town centre, so close to all methods of transport. The on-road parking outside is accommodating if you decide to drive or the snall car park around the rear. The current landlady and landlord have exciting plans for the pub and how to improve it too. There are treat jars on the side of the bar if you decide to bring a pooch with you there isn't many dogs in the pub and they tend to stick to one side, so if you have a fear of dogs don't let this deter you! And access to the local canal pathway or pathway back to vines is immediately outside. Definitely recommend visiting this pub if you haven't in a while! You'll be pleased!
Lovely friendly local pub run by Lovely people. Lovely outside space right by the canal with seating to watch the world go by. Dog friendly too.
Right next to the train station so is perfect for me. Friendly staff and decent beer. Extra probs for Toby the cat, he gave me a warm welcome
Nice place, a short walk from the station, locals pub, good service, and decent selection of drinks.
Nice friendly pub, with reasonably priced beer and helpful staff. Ideally located close to the canal. Well worth a visit!
Lovely pub beside the canal , friendly staff, great atmosphere, will definitely visit again
Friendly staff and decent lager. I did try the Banks Amber Ale to start with, which wasn't the best so swapped to Carling which was decent. Prices not too bad either.
Nice quite pub very friendly good location
Had a very tasty yet strangely cheap meal here on our way by in a canal boat. The wharf just outside was very convenient with an access path that leads up to the pub. Although quiet apart from a toddler playing, that was the 1 star missing, I realise they need looking after, but it's still a pub the staff where friendly and welcoming, and the basket food was very tasty. Home cut and cooked chips are so rare in pubs these days and they made the difference. I would charge more though. £3.45 for a basket of scampi, chips and mushy peas is a steal, compare that to the price they were charging in the pub 2 days later of £11.50 for essentially the same thing and you'll see what I mean. If I'm passing again I'll pop in. Thanks for looking after us.
Visited on Saturday after a nice walk along the canal arrived as they opened at 12. Had a couple of drinks. landlord and landlady very pleasant . Cosy pub great location by the canal defiantly return.Friendly cat name unknown.
