Visiting the area for first time this shop stands out, visiting twice in one afternoon. Interesting selection of genre's and friendly staff going above & beyond to assist with stock late in the day. Spent a fortune on reasonably priced stock. Now to find the time to play them. Highly recommended.
RMP is a great little place for both 12'' inch and 7'' inch vinyl. They have a great stock with unbelievably cheap prices and the staff are very nice too.
Excellent for vinyl junkies helpful staff who can order any album you want
I've been to most record shops in Newcastle at this point the only exception being Reflex records. I used to run straight to Beatdown Records, the one near Central Station, every time my pay slip went through. Recently I went to the Old George Inn, a gorgeous little gastro pub alleyway in the Bigg Market area of town, and just happened to notice RPM on my way out. As a vinyl enthusiast, I was absolutely stoked. Today was the first time I purchased anything from RPM... and for such a small shop, they've got so many good finds. Its like a bloody diamond mine! Seriously, nowhere else in town seems to stock ELO vinyls... except for Windows, but they con you out of every penny. The staff are exceptionally helpful, and the prices are really phenomenal. Something I've noticed with many record shops in Newcastle is that they seem keen to price their records ridiculously high as much as I love them, Beatdown are guilty of this too. RPM's prices are the best you will get for vinyls of a high quality in the town centre. For example, I've included the vinyls I bought today. Bowie - 'Let's Dance' 12inch Single - £6.00 ELO - 'Out of the Blue' 12inch DOUBLE LP - £10.00 Both Phil Collins LP's were £3 each. Seriously that's fantastic. I'd probably pay well over double than that anywhere else in "the toon". I also mentioned the friendliness of the staff, but it needs saying again how kind and approachable they are. To be honest, most record shops in Newcastle do have great staff and service except for Windows in the Central Arcade, bunch of toffee nosed snobs. Like if you can't find what you're looking for in the main room of the shop, just ask a member of staff and they are happy to check in the back for you. So helpful, so charming. Spectacular. Spread the word people; RPM is categorically THE BEST place to go if you need vinyl records in Newcastle.
Cannot recommend this store. Created an order online, they took my money. Months later I get an email saying they don't think it will arrive on time, or in the amount they ordered and canceled my order. Now, Instead of paying retail price, I have to pay second hand and x5 the amount I paid. So, essentially their practice to sell something they dont have in hand cost me a ton of money. Now, I wont be able to get the album I wanted unless I want to pay $250. Wish I would have spent my money with another provided who knows what they are doing. Edit: To respond to the owners reply.... Do you have to be snarky? Maybe don't take preorders if you cannot fulfill them. That may cost me over $200 if I go and buy the vinyl now. Whereas I could have went with another seller and paid the same retail price. The store needs to take accountability.
Picked up a few bargains here today, but the friendliness of the staff is what makes this more than worth a visit. Cd stock is fairly limited, but well priced and, if vinyl is your thing, this place is a must visit. Always love when a record shop is playing a record on a proper turntable, too.
Good selection, decent prices and helpful staff.
Great selection of vinyl and old hifi kit to buy. Lovely staff too
A fantastic record shop! When I come to Newcastle I have to visit this shop as it is just great!
Always come away from here with something special that I had no idea I was going to purchase that day!
