Story
We believe that everyone can become stronger and move freely through lifting weights, improving their mobility and unlocking new movement patterns. Barbells, kettlebells, bodyweight and movement form the basis of our methods. The purpose of our programming is to improve you, not destroy you.

Primal is not an open gym, instead the focus is on coached sessions, run in groups of between 4 and 10 people. This enables us to give each member individual attention while helping to build a community of lifters and movers. Of course if you feel you want or need more focused 1:1 attention, that option is always available.
Our simplistic approach to programming is based around the StrongFirst principles of "easy strength". We are proud to be able to boast about having some of the most qualified and respected coaches in the country under some of the worlds most respected strength organisations including StrongFirst barbell and kettlebell instructor, Strength Matters kettlebell trainer, Dan John certified coach and Primal move instructor, with many years of "in the trenches" experience coaching men and women, from complete beginners to professional athletes.
At Primal we have looked to martial art systems and their principles of a continuous journey seeking mastery of their skills. For us as coaches, it is important to us to have you understand and realise that the only competition you will experience is with yourself. Whether it be lifting a barbell or moving your body through challenging patterns, the goal is to improve. The people around you, both coaches and team members, are there to help you achieve these goals. We believe that through building an atmosphere of encouragement and self challenge, that everyone who joins our programs will discover what they are truly capable of.
In a martial art, once you have achieved a certain level of competency you receive a coloured belt in recognition of your time and dedication. We have taken this and applied it to our programming.
As you hit certain milestones in training, be it lifting a certain percentage of your body weight in a deadlift, hitting your first muscle up or holding a 10 second handstand, you are awarded a coloured t shirt. Each t shirt represents the time, sacrifices and dedication that you put in to earn it. These t-shirts can only ever be earned. No amount of money can buy one. So when you wear it you know you can wear it with pride.
Training with us you will hopefully mean you will never feel awkward or uncomfortable in a gym setting again. You will come to know what works and what doesn't. Our programming takes all the guess work out of training leaving you to concentrate on becoming a stronger, more awesome, version of you.
