From the outside it doesn't look promising but inside the house is just as it was when it was given to the people of Brighton in 1930. I loved that you could wander round the rooms and get close to the artifacts, no ropes or over zealous room wardens here.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
I didn't see a ghost myself but I did meet lots of people with experience and proof they captured themselves. But if ghosts isn't for you, then there is plenty of English history to know and lots of rooms to explore. There is a garden, pet cemetery and church to explore. Preston park is right on the doorstep as well. Soon, you can go ghost hunting at night too...Staff are friendly and very helpful.
Closed for the Winter. Wonderful place. Lovely gardens. The house is lavishly furnished. 'Resident ghosts' caused a bit of a furore for two female visitors. Our lovely guide was very informative. Apparently, she's a "ghost magnet!". Sounds a bit spooky but no harm done. Well worth a visit.
Another one of Brightons gems, a Manor house full of character and history, it's pretty amazing to see how people lived and worked, I.e the servants and how the upper class clearly lived a life of luxury, the manor is meant to be the most haunted building in Brighton, sadly I didn't see any but they do hold ghost hunting events, which I might have to return and have a bash at being a ghost buster, definitely worth a visit, just watch out for kids on school trips and those ghosts of course.
Great National Trust style Manor House near Preston Park, about a half hour walk from the centre of Brighton. The tour was self guided, with information sheets in each room. We particularly enjoyed the servants quarters with their low ceilings and the below stairs with a waste not want not fireplace. The gardens are nice and there's a small Chapel with colourful wall paintings.
Wonderful place. One can walk all around the rooms and furniture, rather than being restricted to a corner as is so often the case. Lots of interesting history and lovely decorative details. Reduced entrance price for residents of Brighton and Hove. It's only taken us twenty years to think to go there and it's only a couple of miles away. Definitely recommend!
Nice old Manor to see but can't spend more than an hour there. Xmas santa was great though
An amazing example of an 18th century Manor House of good size, superbly furnished, and previously unknown to me. Friends, with membership of Brighton Pavilion, which includes entrance to Preston Manor, took us to the house when we stayed with them this weekend. It was their first visit, too, and we all fell in love with the place. It is the most perfect example of a once-livid-in house, with fine furniture, paintings, sculpture, clocks, ceramics and glassware. Really beautiful interiors throughout; with some world class objects, like the the 16th century wooden cabinet carved to represent a a grand, classical hall, with numerous hidden draws, doors and slides reputed to have belonged to Anne Boleyn’s sister. We were lucky enough to spend several hours as the only visitors to the house, where the charming staff were immensely welcoming, without being at all intrusive. Cannot recommend it high enough; an absolute joy to visit.
A very approachable scale, not overpowering, rooms lived in and liveable in
Edwardian manor house with just the right number of rooms to wander thru. Combined with the chapel and walled garden made for an excellent weekend afternoon.
