If there were a hell on earth, it would be Dover border control. The experience is nothing short of a nightmare — endless queues, exhausted travellers, and an atmosphere of sheer frustration. What should be a simple crossing has turned into an ordeal that can last for hours on end.nnSince Brexit, the situation has gone from bad to unbearable. Passport checks now crawl at a glacial pace, and there never seems to be enough staff to cope with the backlog. Families are stranded, tempers flare, and every minute feels like an eternity.nnIt’s hard to believe this is one of the UK’s main gateways to Europe. The infrastructure clearly isn’t designed for the new post-Brexit reality, and the lack of preparation or investment is painfully obvious. Dover has become the poster child for what happens when bureaucracy trumps common sense.nnIf you can avoid travelling through here, do yourself a favour and do so. Dover isn’t just a port anymore — it’s a cautionary tale.
0 stars if possible!!!!nnAbsolutely unacceptable. I’m a tourist, and I missed my ferry despite arriving almost 3 hours in advance – simply because the Port of Dover is completely overwhelmed and horribly mismanaged.nnThe traffic was a nightmare!!!!!nHours of waiting with blocked roads, unfriendly staff, no updates, no organisation whatsoever. Just total utter chaos!!!nnAs someone visiting the UK, this was a shocking and stressful experience. It’s hard to believe that such an important entry/exit point is so badly handled.nnThis is not how a country that values tourism should treat its visitors. I came to the UK expecting professionalism – what I got was frustration, confusion, and wasted time.nnI will not be coming back through Dover again. If this is the first and last impression tourists get, it’s a very bad one. Shameful!!!
Shocking waits at border control, missed our ferry, drove down the night of 17th July for 18th ferry, stayed 5 mins away!!! Took 2 hours to do boarder control at 630 in the morning, only 2 booths open, despite there being about 20,nComplete opposite in Calais, where they opened more every time a queue formednToilets a mess an uncleanednNever again,
1.5 hours after entering the port to do 1 'flipping' mile. Getting to passport control 45 minutes; thank you Cameron!! Not, and then another 45 minutes after passport control to ferry check in. RIDICULOUS. No investment in any modern technologies. Same old traffic cones, same old manual process for check in. You feel like you are trapped in a prison GB
Don't believe what the ferry company tells you! Arrive much earlier than an hour ahead. At least 2. It is so badly organised that it takes that long to get through all the checks. My advice - take the tunnel.
