Very nice apartments with a amazing cafeteria. Good locaton, fair prices, polite staff. Make sure you will request a room far away from the front building door. It is too noisely, and it makes hard to rest or relax, because you can listen the heavy door shutting when it closes, or listen people talking when they go smoke outside to smoke.
Great food and lovely location by Arthur's Seat. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room itself just not for me; brings back uni trauma! Doors banging and loud people in the corridor at all hours. Not overly clean; hairs in the shower before I'd used it made me wonder what else hadn't been cleaned. Room was hot, smelly, and the bed was very uncomfortable. Sorry!
For what you pay it's great value. Campus grounds are nice, Reception staff great. The bedroom is basic but the bed is very comfortable. The shared bathroom is clean but basic. Breakfast is fab. If you're on a budget or want something a little different I'd highly recommend it.
The room itself is OK. The matress is in terrible need of replacement as it had a major sink issue in the middle and looked to have been first put in the room in the mid 90s. The chair provided in the room was unusable due to being broken and nothing was done about it after we reported it on day one of four. The shower had its own mould experiments growing in it. As for staff don't expect to get any useful information out of the reception staff. All we got was a smug smile, poor attitude and them not admitting they had made a mistake. Cleaning staff were excellent and very helpful. I would not pay to stay here again even though it is in a great location.
*** Review for The University of Edinburgh Summer Stays ***nnNOTE: Follow signs for RECEPTION CENTRE to check-in which is key information omitted from booking sites.nnGoogle Maps listings are a mess, so let me clarify that there are two types of accommodation at the University of Edinburgh “Summer Stays”:nn1. Chancellors Court - Rooms with en-suites 3 star .nn2. The Residences called Campus Accommodation on some booking sites - Rooms with shared bathrooms 2 star.nnCollectively the campus is called Pollock Halls.nnThe Residences Turner House, Grant House, Lee House, Baird House, John Burnett House, Ewing House are a good option for when Edinburgh accommodation prices are obscenely expensive.nnRooms are basic student accommodation, so expectations should be set.nBeds are comfortable, with towels provided and showers have shower gel.nAlthough bathroom facilities are shared, rooms have a sink, although no hand soap is provided.nnDespite there being a lot of accommodation, it never felt too busy and I was surprised how quiet it was.nnSadly there are no kitchen facilities at the accommodation to refrigerate food.nnThe free daily breakfast is very good indeed with a good mix of hot and cold options. At peak times it’s extremely busy!nnFinally, check-in at the Reception Centre is a complete joke!nQueues of an hour are common, even in the cold and wet.nEven children, the elderly and those with disabilities, all have to queue outside, it’s ridiculous! Very simply, they need more check-in staff at peak times. The management responsible for this mess should hang their heads in shame - it is not acceptable!nnNOTE: “Summer Stays” at The University of Edinburgh management need to update their listings because they’re currently confusing and only Google Maps business owners can make certain edits.
