The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, and the baked items are really amazing. This place has been on my radar for a while, and I was not let down! My day was made by the pastries, which were warm and just out of the oven.
Nice variety of bread. Friendly staff.
I came here to buy their famous sourdough breads for my brother, though I have later on found that you can get it from Waitrose as well. But I was happy that I decided to visit this small place and I got the best pain au Chocolate I've ever had. I also talked to a regular customer when I was there, according to her Poilane has the best croissants that she only eats the croissants from here. I've tried it, but I still love the freshly baked hot croissants from Pret A Manger better.
Decent sourdough but pricey at >£6/kg. Will be sticking to my East London bakeries
Too easy to order online without all the details needed for completing the delivery. When placing the order, I used the postcode similar to how JustEat uses your postcode to select nearby restaurants. Anyway, the postal details were autofilled by their system, but without my house number. I should have noticed, but because I normally autofill my address using my phone, I thought nothing of it. So I am now the proud owner of a 4 day old loaf that cost me £36, which is sitting in a FedEx depot! My mistake I suppose, but made easier by their not very clear, ordering system. Customer service was pretty 'meh'. My only response was an email telling me my incomplete address was the reason it wasn't delivered. To say I'm gutted, is an understatement, I've been a craft baker for 35 years, and a signature Poilane loaf was always something I yearned to try. But trying to justify paying £36 for a load of bread is difficult. I still have no idea if the bread will eventually get to me. I suppose I could make croutons with it, rather than letting it go to waste
The sourdough I purchased was rock solid and not great, the lady who served me was really nice
Excellent classic ‘poilane’ sourdough, good coffee and lovely staff. Their other offerings are not always fresh however. I bought a pack of brioche and they tasted old and stale, which was disappointing. I would recommend but with a caveat that you choose carefully.
I have only just discovered the Poilane rye and raisin loaf. I had to use my mini hacksaw, which is the highest praise I can give. The opposite extreme to the fluffy stuff in the supermarkets. The most delicious bread I've eaten.
We bought some pain au chocolat, but they were not cooked enough, and had barely no chocolate in them. For 2 pounds per pain au chocolat, you'd expect something better. Very disappointed.
One of the best croissants I've had in London which says a lot as this is very near Dominique Ansel. Very good sourdough as well and I like that you can get any portion you need from a slice to a whole loaf.
