Was more than happy with 2 visits over the last couple of days drinks only did not eat. Real ale quality fine, pleasant staff nice decor apart from the wallpaper depicting animal heads on portraits .. a pet hate of mine, unintended pun. Quiet atmosphere too even when busy as it was on Weds evening. Date of visits tues 19/6/22 and Weds 20/6/22. Please note this refers to Plough Inn Rottingdean, Google seems to want to lump everything into Brighton
Booking online was easy for a Sunday lunchtime for 4. We had a table by a window. Service was swift and the roasts beef, pork, lamb, and veggie wellington were all good. Well cooked, presented and tasty. Up to this point would have been 5 stars. One party member decided to have pudding. His menu choice was not available so was offered eaton mess. What came was a lot of crumbled meringue, 2 or 3 halves of strawberry, a smearing of strawberry sauce and a few spots of cream. Not worth the £8 or so charged. And when this was pointed out at the end of the meal, the member of staff showed little interest. Although then agreed but did nothing to put it right. A shame when the rest of the meal had been so good.
Absolutely the best pub we have been to in Brighton area! Such amazing and friendly staff members. The food was of quality, delicious beef rib and chuck burgers, we also had the gnocchi which was so creamy and Absolutely delicious! Lovely bottle of Shiraz wine from South Africa! 100% recommended this beautiful and VERY clean pub! Thank you for such lovely service and quality food.
We booked a table for a Christmas meal weeks in advance. When we arrived, we were told that our table was outside! despite the temperature being -2 degrees at the time. We were eventually given an indoor table but then were told that we should've pre-ordered food if we wanted the Christmas menu, which was not communicated at any stage during booking. Staff were standoffish and made no apologies at all. It was a very awkward atmosphere and so we left. I honestly couldn't recommend this pub and won't be returning.
Booked a birthday Sunday lunch here for 8 of us for my Mum's 90th as staying in an Air B&B in Rottingdean. It was fine and the food was ok although we waited for an hour for our food. When we asked after 40 minutes if our lunch was en route the manageress told us there had been a problem with the oven. That happens and we were cool with it but they might have told us. The meals arrived in two batches so the first were not that hot once the roasts had arrived. I asked for medium beef and it was well done. This pub is quite expensive for what it is. London prices really. The manageress then apologised that we had waited so long for food we had arrived at 12.30 and were hoping to be out earlier than 2.30 to celebrate more with our Mum and she offered us free dessert. We said no thanks as were going home for birthday cake. The first bill that came was not discounted at all and as we were about to pay they produced a second bill with my Mum's main course knocked off. It was ok and judging by other reviews we were just unlucky. It was just a shame it was for such a special occasion for us.
Regular pub of mine as I live in the village, Kenny and the rest of the staff are brilliant, friendly and welcoming, theres a roaring fire in winter, the food and drinks are top quality and it's a dark wook old style pub full of character with a heated beer garden, highly recommend. There is also a large duck pond next to the pub where you can take your drinks as long as you bring the glasses back, please do visit here as it's lovely!
We just stumbled into this place. What a delight, lovely ambience with the fountain, superb service and gorgeous food. We had the Arancini, Seared King Prawn, Skinny Fries, Club Slaw, Sourdough & Pecan Pie. It was ALL just so nice. The service was superb from Megan, Grace, Charlie & Tom. Clearly assets to themselves and to the restaurant. Keep up the superb work and will DEFO be back when we come back to Brighton. Thanks so much Andy & Joanie
Lovely pub in idyllic setting. Easy to book. Friendly staff, who give fantastic gin suggestions. Prompt service, the food is well presented and more importantly delicious. Definitely going back.
Totally hated the miserable tart who served us over the May Bank Holiday. As you can see from my photos the place had several tables free however the said miserable tart kept telling us the tables were reserved. We would of gladly moved once the people had turned up I’m sure the food is great here but staff really make the fun and enjoyment. Will not be suggesting or recommending this to any one
A delightful Sunday roast. The pork was delicious and plentiful. I really didn't need the side of pigs in blankets, but I'm glad I did . The veggie roast also for a thumbs up for my beautiful wife.
