Chose Pimlico plumbers because we assumed the high price point would result in high quality work, but honestly we received pretty shoddy service. Spent £144 for the plumber to only turn our water off something we already knew how to do, without performing any fixes or including any useful information on what might be wrong. Got another plumber in the next day who performed all necessary fixes in good time. Pimlico Plumbers’ business model appears to be contingent on scaring clients into booking multiple visits, thereby massively inflating overall costs. I really wouldn’t recommend this company.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! In addition to unreasonable prices, they are unhelpful and arrogant. We booked a visit yesterday to check on our underfloor heating system which was not fully functioning. Instead of an underfloor heating specialist, they sent a garden variety gas engineer who could do nothing other than inspect the situation and turn the heat on, and told us that “it’s not fully functioning” and that there might be something wrong with the manifold but he couldn’t be sure. He basically did nothing and recommended we get an underfloor heating specialist to look into it. This means another inspection visit, and only after this second visit can anything actually be done. We still had to pay the full price for the first visit, money down the drain. Naturally we’re concerned and called the customer service to get a quote for the whole project, but they were either unable or unwilling to provide even this bit of information. They did make a concession-they would take the cost of the second visit out the amount we’ve already paid. But without the faintest idea how much the whole thing will cost us, how could we possibly go any further with them? We demanded a full refund, which was only natural and fully justified since nothing was done, but they refused to comply. Stay away. You won’t regret it.
08/09: Final update - having persevered with my claim for overcharging right up to issuing a final letter before court action, I have finally received a reasonable settlement amount from them. My advice is to do the same, use Citizens Advice, if needed. 28/07: Having received further information from the company, it is clear that the plumber falsely claimed to have made two trips, instead of the one he did. And, he charged me for the trip that he did not make. Pimlico Plumbers unwilling to refund the overcharge so looks like we are headed to the Small Claims Court! 12/07: I tried to send an email to the email address in your response. It seems not to be a valid email address! While the pricing is transparent and so I had a reasonable idea of what the work would cost. Nonetheless, it is difficult to believe that their staff drive around in empty vans, as the plumber took two trips out to purchase a hose pipe to connect the w/m to the cold water feed and then another trip to buy a compression t joint. These are fairly basic parts which any reputable plumber should have in their van. Oh and I had to tell him that he did not need to solder the t join and that a compression joint would be fine. It is hard to escape the impression that he took the trips to increase the total charge. PS the cost of the parts was about three times what Toolstation charges to their retail customers!
