A nice place to go for a walk by the banks of the River Mersey. Used by many dog walkers, not all of whom are great at clearing up after their dogs. Also, some woodland to explore. Excellent spot to see a large variety of wading birds feeding at low tide. River is fast and deep here, with steep banks, so stick to the riverside path. There are quite a few picnic tables which are nicely situated, and some seats dotted about. Dog-friendliness: Dogs free to roam off the lead as long as they are controllable and friendly. Picnic area: Some picnic tables at the car park and some near the river.
Lovely place to relax, walk your dog and chilling by banks of river mersey ,part of route62 cycle way
Pickering pastures is a beautiful nature reserve. With multiple paths and routes around the area, you can be sure of a pleasant walk along the river Mersey, through wooded areas or open fields. Many people use this fabulous location to walk their four-legged friends. With bins situated along several of the routes, there is really no reason not to tidy up after yourselves either. Unfortunately, this doesn't always happen. If you're of the bird watching persuasion, there are many birds to be seen on the river or in the reserve. There is also a bird watching spot at the western most point. On the main car park and along the main path, there are several picnic areas that look out over the water. Also, on the car park is a visitors centre, unfortunately this is seldom open. Down sides to this area are that the bins are regularly overflowing as the council tends not to bother with the ones away from the car park. Dog mess on the paths away from the tarmaced areas. And finally, depending on what time it is or what the weather is like, it can be very busy. These are all personal points of view, of course. As part of the trans Pennine trail, going from Southport to Hornsea, it is a beautiful spot along it. The trail will take you to some local areas such as Spike Island and Fiddlers Ferry.
Beautiful walk, fantastic views. Nice walks with solid paths or off the track field walks. Can get busy at times. Good parking area at the place with a great view too if you don't fancy a walk Dog-friendliness: Great place to walk dog's but kept under control, can get busy with people and dog's.
Pickering Pastures is one of my favourite places to visit with views of the Jubilee bridge and the Mersey gateway. The path is tarmac and small gravel if you cycle it's fine. There are about 6 flights of stairs and a bridge over Ditton Brook you will need to carry your this up and down and it's not wheelchair accessible. You get wonderful views of Runcorn over the Mersey River and on a sunny day its perfect. If you've never been its a must there is a car park and many dog walking routes.
Lovely little place for dog walk. Lots of parking and it wasn’t too busy. I was walking my 7 month puppy and found it a good place to practice recall. Dog-friendliness: Lots of other dog walkers
A local beauty spot fantastic for bird watching and dog walking or just taking in some air. It is wheelchair accessible it is well paved although there are a couple of steep slopes. Run entirely by volunteers. Picnic area with tables.
A lovely place for a walk with the family. No poo bins.
From the moment you reach the car park, you want to explore. Shame same could not be said for our dogoo. Who did get slightly overwhelmed by all the places to go. Will be back to try again though. Shame there is a big dirty looking industrial estate across the water but otherwise a beautiful place and the locals are a friendly bunch.
Really nice place for a walk. It's great to be up close to the Mersey and see how fast the water goes up or down. The path was well kept and a nice long walk with great views!
