A great Chinese restaurant offering good quality food. Pak Choi seem to be unique in that they don't add MSG to their food. Staff are lovely and go out of their way to accommodate requests for non-menu dishes. Dining in is generally very good however service can at times be a little on the slow side. Gives you a good opportunity to catch up with who your with but can be frustrating if you are extremely hungry. Good with takeaway orders and competitively priced for the area. Easily the best Chinese in the area.
I am a strict vegetarian no meat/fish/egg. Daisy Manager recommended their dry tofu telling me that her strict vegetarian customers order this. I have just found out by another employee there that this dish is coated with egg! Her response was 'we try our best. This can happen sometimes. What do you want now, it's happened?' In the same evening, I was served with 'vegetarian noodles' that contained chicken. This has happened twice. I was told there was someone else working in the kitchen?! I don't trust that these people care about your food requirements or allergies and give misinformation. I won't be ordering from them again. Disgusted by their blatant disregard and casual response.
Overall we had a good meal and staff were very friendly. The egg fried rice portion was big and came in a cute steaming basket, recommend the lemon chicken - so good! The negatives were the noodle dish was definitely reheated in a pan as the noodles were charred. Men's toilets are outside... It was a rainy freezing cold day, so probably the worst restaurant toilet I've been to. Beware there is a service charge when dining in. For desert we had a banana fritter with vanilla ice cream which I would recommend for anyone wanting to have something traditional + We were given a free Asian pear to taste at the end of our meal.
I didn't really want to leave 1 star. We visited Pak Choi last night to Celebrate a very much loved friends sadly departed Birthday with his Mum. It was awful. As a group of 8, the Buffet Menu couldn't accomadate us all as, we were only allowed to order 8 Mains, including Rice/Noodles so we took the desicion to order seperately. The Majority of our order was from the Buffet Menu, 3 dishes from Al La Carte. To cut 2 hours of grief short, every dish was extremly Overcooked, yet cold and my Pad Tai tasted and smelt like Vomit. After asking to speak to the Manager, who was not on the Premises Apparently, we were finally given 20% off drinks and around the same for the food. We ended up having to pay £15 per head for Inedible food. I was so Hungry, we had to visit a BP Garage on the way home. The food was cheaper and Edible. Such a sad way to remember someone. Absolutely disgusted..... Nothing was fresh, clearly all reheated. I could've cooked this Entire Meal better, from scratch, and I'm not a qualified Chef.....
Had a great time there. Vegetable Singapore noodles were nice, not very fried. Friend loved the chicken chow mein. The ambience is really special because they have all these pretty Chinese lanterns hanging from the ceiling, and the service was excellent. Would recommend if you want a nice dinner out.
Nice, brightly decorated restaurant and reasonable food but very slow unprofessional service. Staff were quite welcoming and friendly at first and then it all fell apart. They seemed to be prioritising many takeaway orders to the detriment of restaurant customers. The phone rang constantly and was often left unanswered which was extremely annoying. We waited at least 45 minutes for our soup and starters. The duck and pancakes were cold. Other customers were complaining too. There were no apologies or enquiries if we were ok - in fact no customer service at all!! We had the fixed all you can eat menu at £23 a head but the portions were quite small and the plates to eat it off very small, like side plates. We could have ordered more but it would have taken too long. We spent a total of 2 and a half hours there, a lot of it spent waiting. The toilet facilities outside the back of restaurant are dire and dirty and not pleasant at all and lack of hygiene quite worrying. Won't be going back and frankly we are surprised at all the very favourable reviews which influenced our decision to eat here!
A somewhat awkward dining experience. Food takes a pretty long time to arrive and staff are a bit too stingey about rules of set menus/all you can eat/taking food home especially considering we were a party of 10, by far the largest table of the night. The atmosphere isn't great, this is my second visit to Pak Choi and it's been pretty much empty both times.
Went to Pak Choi for a Tues date night & were thoroughly disappointed, the food was overly greasy, could see oil floating in the sauce. Cocktail drink was NOT a mojito, which it was advertised to be, it was watered down & tasted vile. Don't advertise something on a menu if unsure how to make it! The replacement coke was watered down, and not finished. After a fairly adequate chinese meal we queried £5.50 on the bill, and were told it was a service charge. We explained to the server that service charge is a choice by customer, she replied that it was the bosses policy. It was too much effort to argue, so paid it she was a good waitress saying that we wouldn't be back, & that we'd tell our friends. Doesn't even deserve 1 stat in my opinion, wasted date night. GUTTED.
Recently changed from being called Chongs. The all you can eat menu here is actually really good. Not the trashy food you get all usual all you can eat. Management here are really friendly, even made a couple of bespoke dishes for us to try.
The food was lovely but I feel the waiting staff need to step back a bit and allow you to eat at your pace. We felt very rushed even though the restaurant was fairly empty.
