I enjoyed a lovely Festive Turkey Dinner with my Auntie on Monday 28th November and I couldn't fault the food, service or atmosphere we had a very relaxing experience. I would recommend coming here for their lovely food. Here is a photo of our meals Food: 5/5
We booked for a Sunday afternoon as we were in the area. When we arrived we were seated upstairs although downstairs there seemed to be plenty of space. This was inconvenient with a pram and one adult with a walking stick but we were told they didn't have any tables downstairs that were suitable so we went with it. Upstairs was only us and one other table that left pretty soon after we arrived. This meant the pub felt very empty and there was no atmosphere. Because we were upstairs the service we received wasn't great. The servers themselves were very friendly but not attentive. It took a long time to get ordered, plates cleared and when we needed the bill we eventually gave up waiting and went to them. The food however was good and everyone really enjoyed what they had. It came out hot and fresh and was good value. The roast was a great option and the beef was cooked perfectly. Overall it's a good pub for convenience and the food is good. If you're staying at the premier Inn or are in the area and need food then it's a good option however if you have more time and can travel a bit further there are some fantastic independent pubs in the area.
Five adults and three children went here for a family breakfast on a Sunday. The service was excellent. Our waitress Kate explained where everything was and took our order quickly. Nothing was to much trouble, our breakfasts arrived all freshly cooked and the poached eggs were perfect. We weren't rushed and some of us had seconds. Would recommend this Beefeater to everyone. Kid-friendliness: The staff were friendly and helpful to the children. Parking: Ample parking
Just had our Xmas lunch here and it was excellent. From the initial meet and greet to the food and to us leaving 2 hrs later, everything was faultless. Lunch was absolutely delicious, we could only manage three out of the four courses had to take a rain check on the coffee but managed to squeeze in the mint chocolates . Compliments to the chef and kitchen team! The waiting staff were attentive and our courses weren't rushed making our lunch time spent at the Oyster Reach very enjoyable. If Xmas lunch is happening here in 2021 we will definitely be coming. Would highly recommend. Well done !
We came xmas dinner which was excellent. The only downfall was that we had phoned previously a week before. We phoned to say that my husband would be having a knee op on the 23rd and would be unable to sit in a booth. When we arrived we told to sit in a booth. We then told the server that this was inappropriate due to my hubby unable to bend his knee. Her comment was that we should have told them which we did she went and checked. There was no notes put on our booking and she was very rude. We were eventually had to sit in the bar area which we did not like. We had another sever whose name was Ebony and she was amazing. Please make sure that when a customer does phone to alter a booking that it is written down and not think the staff are Psychic
Good place for a beer or food. It's warm in there as well. Usually takes a long long time to get served at the bar if only having drinks. And when you do get attention, the routine of pouring and serving and getting to pay for, say, 3 drinks individually is long and laborious.Food: 4/5
Only popped in for a drink on our way back to Ipswich from Shotley, as our original plans didn't come to fruition. Very quiet initially, but the longer we stayed, the busier it became. It was difficult to attract a member of staff to begin with, as there was no one available when we arrived! Once the staff member appeared, he was very pleasant.
Went for my wife's birthday. Last few experiences have been bad. Waited for ages to be served and again for drinks refil and again to pay. The vegetables in the roast were not just cold but the carrots still frozen. I ordered a new coke and waited 20 minutes, then when I finally got a server's attention found the shift changed and my coke had to be reordered. Then waited another 15 minutes for that to come. The cheek of presenting me with the credit card machine asking if I wanted to leave a tip. Never going there again.
Went for Boxing Day meal with family. Thoroughly disappointed, the food quality was very poor. We were a party of eight and for every course the meals came out at different times. Food wasn’t hot. They were short staffed and we had to find them to order drinks. No one came to ask if everything was ok! I complained and they did take some money off the bill but this didn’t come close to compensating for a ruined Boxing Day. Definitely would not recommend to anyone.
Three starters and four mains from the lunch menu for under £40 is great value. Potato dippers were the standout, a lighter option to loaded skins, all the taste without the heavy potato. The rump steaks exceeded expectation, no fatty parts or gristle. Nothing left on the plates at all. Skinny fries loved by the children, triple cooked chips enjoyed by the adults. Salad was fresh, spot on. Ambience was pleasant, not too busy midweek though enough to have some background buzz. A very good experience.
