A photographic exhibition space. It is quite small but on 2 floors. In all honesty I was slightly underwhelmed by the current exhibition. The exhibitions are free, a donation is requested.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
It’s a fatherly small photography gallery. First floor mainly has portraits. Second floor mainly displays buildings. The photos they have are quite standard, interesting enough for general audience, but not that niche compare to some other contemporary photography galleries. Absolutely love the bookshop. It has a lot of amazing photography books, pamphlets and cool stationeries. One thing I enjoy the most is the art corner, where you can cut off pieces from different magazines and make your own collage art postcards, then leave it on the shelf. Very great idea for people to engage in art and photography closely.
Free entrance, though can give donation. Good location, bright, clean gallery over a couple of floors with a lift. Quite small and limited pieces on display but I liked it. Worth a look around.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
I went to see the Liverpool Biennial 2023, and the space was bigger than I expected. There are more gallery-presented artworks upstairs, and people are super friendly there, they recommend how to visit other Biennial places.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
Visited to see the Saturday Town exhibition. It explores fashion and identity of young people around different towns. Casey has put together some amazing photographs over the last 10 years. The exhibition is only there until 18th May. A must see
Amazing place to see a community of photographers that aren't famously known, exhibit. Enjoyed my time there. Declan was so welcomingVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
The gallery is quite huge, and I kinda feel the current exhibitions didn’t really do much to fill it! The shop isn’t bad, and I love the history. I understand the need for sponsorship. But what was in display at the moment would of fitted in one gallery. Given the amount of photography courses in and around, why not introduce some new talent. Anyway, if you are in to photography do pop in!
Independent not-profit photography gallery, interesting shots of the problematic topics facing the world.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
As always, excellent gallery run by excellent people. Go see a show there, any show is doesn't matter. Engage with the staff if you would like to know more as they are so passionate about the work that they do, you will leave feeling inspired by them and the artist's work.
I had a look around the Open Eye gallery. The staff were quite helpful and encouraging. I saw a video about people using bamboo to make some kind of exhibition. This drew my attention because one of the locations that they used was Wirral Country Park in Thursaston. I wasn’t sure about what they were trying to make or whether the message that they were advocating was a useful one. The group seemed to be suggesting that bamboo should be grown in the UK as it is a useful and sustainable material. However, I wasn’t quite convinced by this message. I was under the impression that bamboo could be invasive, like Japanese knotweed and the qualities that make it sustainable fast to grow and strong are precisely the qualities that could cause it to endanger the ecosystem. I wasn’t quite sure exactly what they were making in the video either and why it was a useful thing to do beyond a visual arts display. The group were melting plastic bottles which caused toxic fumes to be emitted into the air. I am an environmentalist myself I don’t drive, I haven’t flown for well over 10 years, so I am always keen to hear about sustainable solutions but I wasn’t quite sold on the ideas presented in this video. There were some nice paintings in other parts of the gallery, but nothing in particular drew my attention. It was quite a small gallery in general. When I went to scan the QR code to leave feedback, this took me to a broken link. When I told the staff about this, they said that they would look into getting this fixed.
