A very well appointed and clean and welcoming cottage. Joining instructions were very clear and helpful, key collection explained well and everything was as described on the website. A wonderful quiet location but within easy walking distance of Sedbergh. We found all we needed and more. Wonderful for watching birdlife and for walks from the door.

Of all the apartments and cottages on our three week UK adventure, Old Station Cottage was undoubtedly the very best. It was as described on the VRBO posting, and very much more. Owners Dianna and Paul have skillfully repurposed this wonderful heritage building it into two equally sized and very well appointed bedrooms (no difficulties over which couple gets to choose), large, well furnished dining room and sitting room, and modern, very well equipped kitchen and bath, all immaculately clean. More than that, Dianna has given a lot of thought into what travellers need when they arrive: fresh milk in the refrigerator, newly baked bread from the village shop, a wonderful assortment of bathroom toiletries, an excellent collection of maps, hike descriptions and other local information, and even an assortment of board games in case it rains. We chose Sedbergh by chance, half way between Oban and London, but the town gave us a superb insight into English country life. We found a delightful variety of small, friendly shops within walking distance, including one of the best used book stores we have ever seen. We took one of the walks described in Dianna's list and learned what "over hill and dale" really means, wandering among the sheep along the riverside path and then up and around stately Sedbergh Grammar School. Of course we finished our walk in the Red Lion pub across from the St Andrew's Parish Church, and enjoyed hours of fine ales and even finer conversation. On our return home, we enjoyed relaxing on the patio and walking among the flowers in the large, well kept garden. The owners have an apartment in the other side of the building where they spend part of their time. We were fortunate that they were home during our stay, so we were able to wash a mountain of laundry in their machine, all the while talking to Dianna about the history of Sedbergh, the station building and the people who lived and worked there. For us, this was a highlight of our trip. We will certainly come back to the Old Station Cottage if ever we visit the area again, and will highly recommend it to our family and friends. Situated as it is, half way between the Highlands and London and a short drive off the M6 motorway, it is an ideal stopping off point. But once you stop, you'll want to stay.
