Right on the fish quay, Oceans offers both a restaurant and take away premises next door to each other. Both are fresh bright and clean. We went to the take away and got a chip buttie. The guy serving filled.the rat of the box with extra chips and offers us batter scraps to go on top. A bargain that fed two easily for 1.80 GBP.
I visited Oceans Fish and Chips with my Mother and Father today and they both spoke highly as they were impressed about receiving tea and bread with the Fish and chips. They ate a pensioners meal of Fish and chips and I ate a regular meal of Fish and chips ordered by my Father for me. I ate half a slice of white bread with what I believed to be butter spread thinly on and it tasted nice and the bread seemed fresh. I noticed that the portion size for the regular is larger than a pensioners portion size which is by no means small in comparison. I noticed that the pensioners Fish was a full one I believe approximately 30 cm. My regular Fish was slightly longer and there was additional fish battered connected to it. I did not have any bones in mine which is great and neither my Mother or Father mentioned finding any in theirs so Oceans would be great for children. I noticed 2 children approx 12 - 18 months in the establishment so I would describe Oceans as very family friendly. The batter on the Fish is what I would describe as 'just right' as is crispy, golden batter encasing the full Fish, no softness what so ever. The portion of chips I are well cooked and I ate most of them. Most looked the same size chip and were well cooked. I left about 15 chips due to the fact the meal had filled me up. I did notice a few small pieces of chips that would be better off not on the plate, this did not affect my meal one at all as the portion size was more than enough for me and the meal tasted great. The tea came in 2 stainless steel teapots, a larger one and smaller one and a cup and saucer is provided. I enjoyed 2 cups of tea which was very nice, so nice in fact that I did not add sugar, something which I'm happy with as I'm looking to stop adding additional sugar to my hot drinks completely. Overall the experience is great, service is great as I noticed the wait for the meals is possibly 10 minutes or less, truthfully I was having such an enjoyable experience I had not even thought about that until now. Well done Oceans Fish and chips.
Lovely fish and chips cooked to perfection. The cod wasn't dry and the batter was crispy. The chips were crisp, hot and delicious. However, the heating is not up to much and it is quite cold in there, even though we sat near a heater. The staff are excellent, attentive and friendly. Nothing is too much for them. When the weather gets warmer I will definitely be going back.
Staff could not have been more pleasant. Our fish and chips were superb and the serving was certainly big enough even though we did not order the large portions. Came with tea and bread & spread . I have given ocean five star, but i do have one niggle. The fish and chips that came were very hot, but unfortunately they were served on a very cold plate. So it's a shame because the second half of the meal ends up cold. Will still definitely go again and maybe even ask for it on warm plate.
We visited on Good Friday so was fully prepared to have to queue. However when we neared the front there was only 1 young girl serving for a lot of the time. Thankfully another young and speedier server came along to help. The fish and chips were OK. We haven't been for a while but was quite disappointed as we were previously very impressed with food and service even on a busy Good Friday. We don't live close by so will be trying somewhere new next time
We received a very friendly welcome. The fish was so white and tasty. The portion sizes are plentiful. The members of the team were lovely and spent time having a chat with us. Would highly recommend this fish restaurant!!
Bank Holiday Monday about 5pm and still a few people around. Families, Father and Son and a group of Elderly persons plus Us Man Woman and two kids. Must admit the fish was beautiful. A lovely light crispy batter the fish so moist and white and a beautiful taste. Even the kids ate all the fish except the small amount that ended on the floor. However I found that the chips were rather oily tasting. Little miss said not nice and young Master J that they were ok. The staff very pleasant and obliging and very helpful. Will still go again but I think mainly for the fish. The special Fish Chips tea bread and butter.
Our first visit today 17 November 2019 to North Shields fish quay. The new owners have changed the name to The Plaice fish and chip restaurant. Called for lunch and it was disappointing. I had haddock, chips and peas. My wife had cod, chips and peas. The fish was good but the chips were atrocious. I am convinced they were left over from last night and kept warm. Soggy and a tasteless waste of money. The bread and margarine and the tea...poor. Definitely our first and last visit. The table next to us had not been wiped clean and no-one was interested in doing so. Zero stars would be more appropriate.
Service was amuture at best, no vinegar on table, brought 3 meals out with only 2 sets of knives and forks, got the order wrong. Had no haddock, chips looked burnt but tasted under cooked, and the cod was very very small for the price. My 5 year old daughter wouldn't eat the dark colour chips, so they didn't charge me for which was rather decent of them. But the bill was still £25 for fish and chips and scampi and chips and 3 cans of pop. Talk about over priced. Won't be back, and their far better all long the fish Quay to choose from. Do your self a favour don't bother unless you like to waist your cash.
Much better than the other chip shop which is waaaaay too greasy. Chips are thick and crispy. I just wish they would stick a load of fish in, in anticipation of people ordering them. Chances are most customers want fish so anticipate this by having at least 3 ready at any one time! Other than this logistic issue staff were very helpful and prompt in the takeaway. Food is piping hot and tasty well done.
