3.5 stars but I'm being nice Tasty enough fish and chips. But the service was mediocre, and the counter is very cramped at the end of a long narrow corridor make sure you don't try to go in the front door as it's locked!. The price was fair these days at £10.50 or so for a 'standard' cod and chips, but 50p for a tiny tomato ketchup was a bit steep.
Fantastic . Had the Haddock with chips and a carton of curry and a.cup of tea.and sat on the table outside, best fish in a canny whileFood: 5/5
One of the best places to have a traditional Fish & Chips meal in the UK. I also ordered a king prawns meal which was so delicious and crunchy. Some members of staff should be more trained on the cashier when dealing with the orders, other than that, you can’t fault this place. Highly recommend trying it.Food: 5/5
It was a very cold evening and we found a very warm restaurant near the sea in the main road in Tynemouth. The service was excellent, we could sit down in a very nice table, the restaurant seems you are inside a ship and decorated with cosy lights. The fish and chips was served very hot and in a take away box with proper cutlery. They were cleaning the floor as it was late but they attended to everyone. Highly recommended.
I've been an infrequent customer across the decades as don't live too local but always loved Marshall's due to being taken by both sets of Grandparents in the 1970s/ 80s. I visited today and was sad to see there was no longer service in the restaurant. I asked which fish was ready and the answer was 'not sure, but it could be cod or haddock'. Ordered 2 x mystery fish and chips with 2 teas and a fruit shoot. £28 odd. The chips were fab but the fish was overheated and dry. I complained discreetly and the manager quickly had our orders changed and the new fish looked much better. It was better but not brilliant. Sad to see the place like this - now just a touristy bog standard food provider. I can't see us returning. Initial service 5/10 Service after complaint 10/10 Chips 8/10 First fish 4/10 Second fish 7/10
Best fish and chips I have had in ages, including those I have had in Whitby. I like cod, lightly battered and well done and it was just as I asked. The fish was beautifully white and tasty. All fish was being freshly cooked to order, which I liked. No table service, but that was a minor thing. Also overcharged, but that was soon rectified when I pointed this out. Will definitely return to Marshall's when I am in Tynemouth again.
This place has never changed in the 30odd yrs . Tiny narrow passage to left of buildings for take away and as usual was 10 deap . The only thing I witnessed was a person very badly on their feet coming into the sit down but for take away , They ended up not getting anything as the queue was too long for them to stand and the position of the staff meant we could not get attention to get them served another way. Fish n chips was great as usual.
Quick service and the food was hot. However it was rather greasy and even the small fish and chips meal was still too much food for me. The first few bites of the fish and chips were tasty, but after that the food was no longer enjoyable and I started to feel full and sick.Food: 3/5
Never seen such miserable staff behind a counter WAY over priced £3! For a sausage.. then a further £3.50 for chips what an extortion further ordered my self a coke for the blonde girl to slam it on the counter, the place is practically ran by kids and they take 0 care into preparation of your food will not be returning.Food: 3/5
Thankfully we chose the correct way to enter side door/ long corridor. Those coming via the main entrance were being barked at to walk round and use the other door, where they fell to the back of the queue. Found cheerless atmosphere, with impression they wanted you to just hurry up, order, and get out. I told my two children to go & wait back outside with husband as I didn’t like the vibe. Ordered two kids meals, and was promptly confronted by girl on counter that I was not under 16 so couldn’t order them. Had to explain myself for a moment thought I may have to drag kids back inside to prove myself. Despite high prices was still charged extra for ketchup, extra for fork, bag etc what next, extra for drawing breath inside their shop, extra for a twist of lemon on my £10 fish!!??. Ordered fish n chips and other bits which came in separate trays. When I politely asked for a box as it formed a meal for my husband and I didn’t want it set out in separate trays along the sea wall, like tapas for the seagulls was refused unless I was willing to pay extra, despite already spending a daft amount of money on fish n chips. When I raised this, was told, “sorry, computer says no” otherwise phrased as, sorry , our boss has told us we can’t do this. I appreciate not the staff’s fault per se. Managers/owners need to give their heads a wobble re accommodating service. Otherwise, have given a star for serving warm, edible food.
