We visited the Nostell estate today for the first time. We arrived at 9am and knew the gardens and house didn't open till 11am so we did the walk round the estate via obelisk lodge which was a pleasant 2.5 mile walk. We had a drink in the cafe where the staff were friendly and the prices reasonable before taking in the gardens and a walk round the treasure house. Everything was great, really interesting and all in all it took us about 5 hours to get round everything. Highly recommend a visit to anyone!
It’s a beautiful house, the art, tapestry’s and ceilings are something else. We love a kitchen garden, and this one did no tdisappoint. The play area is fun, son enjoyed it. The walk down by the lake and all the foxgloves… I wish I had more time and was kid free. It looked like the perfect place to sit and reflect. So tranquil. Honestly, the National Trust Membership is soooo so worth it.
Really nice place and huge grounds with lots to explore. Would live to come here when the garden is in full flower. Nice walk around the lakes with lots of wild life. Saw a black stoat ? Which was awesome.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
This place is amazing. The house is impressive. The National Trust team has done a fantastic job at decorating and preserving this place. They house is something to see. I loved that natural light was allowed in some areas. The stables were amazing. My only regret with this place was that we didn't get to spend more time walking through the park and gardens.
Tuesday 18th June Large house, with plenty of rooms open, volunteers are really helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Grounds are huge, plenty of walks with lots to see, the lakes make great viewing with plenty of wildlife visible. Mostly on level made footways, where unsuitable for limited mobility signs are visible and alternative routes available. Adequate parking on site. Cafe available with indoor or outdoor seating, second hand bookshop and plants available.
Incredible place and definitely worth a visit. Lovely walk this afternoon. So much to explore. Dog friendly, areas where dogs must be kept on their leads are clearly marked. Various walks in the grounds, through fields, woods, around the lake..... tickets for entrance and tours of the house can be purchased at the sales office. Gift shop, tearoom and toilet facilities all located in the same area. Note the tearooms close at 4pm on the dot!... rather rude member of staff. Parking is £5, payment by cash/card, monies going to the National Trust. Disabled parking available. Free parking for National Trust members
With many of the great houses, you're herded through a relatively small number of rooms with little information on the history of the house or rooms, NOT so with Nostell. Not only are there many rooms to explore, but each room is packed with information to give you the full history of the house. The staff are absolutely fantastic and knowledgeable, which really adds to the storytelling. Outside, you have the pleasure of exploring the grounds at a leisurely pace, from woodland trails to the kitchen gardens, perfect for young and old. Feeling peckish? Head to the old stables for bite to eat in the cafe or grab a gift at the very reasonably priced shop. If you're looking to delve into a bygone era steeped in history, add Nostell to your list. It's definitely worth it!
An interesting National Trust property. Visited on a grey May day. The location would look far more attractive if the sun was shining! The main car park is about 1/2 kilometre from the abbey obviously not an abbey but built where one had been. There is a large courtyard with a great deal of outdoor seating for coffee and cakes from the cafe. It is a large interesting house which will take some time to go around, especially enjoyable if you like 17th and 18th history. The volunteers are particularly knowledgeable and helpful giving background information. Key things to look out for are the works by Chippendale and the clock by John Harison. The Rose Garden and vegetable garden are impressively maintained. As the weather was not particularly warm we did not do any on the long walks in the grounds but on a nice day it should provide a good 2-3 mile hike. Overall it was an enjoyable vidit.
Great place to visit. Plenty of parking, massive grounds/lake/gardens to walk through and for children to run and play. The house is huge and some of open to the public to look around.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Beautiful house and grounds, lots of history and amazing old furniture and features in the house, worth a visit, yes it is. However, one downside is the price of food and drink now at National Trust venues, and especially here is ridiculous, we'll overpriced a pasties is £5.30! A sausage roll £4.80 and drinks are as dear as a Costa and Starbucks now! Come on, NT, I know you need to make money to help preserve these beautiful houses and grounds, but this is silly! I already pay to help by being a member, and surely you'd still make a profit, especially on drinks at half the prices you charge. My advice is to take a pack lunch, plenty of seats to eat, or a nice day relax on the grass NT lose out by overcharging, however again enough people are still paying the prices‍
