The Northern hotel, a hidden gem in the heart of the Angus countryside’ has been providing hospitality for over three centuries.

Following the re-opening and full refurbishment of the hotel in 2005, the hotel continues to go from strength to strength, constantly striving to improve the quality and standard of product that we provide to you, our customers. Staff are really nice. Heating is sorted now. Cosy comfortable atmosphere. I keep going back, so must be doing something right.

Visited for lunch on a Saturday which was very busy. Good service with a smile, good food just a wee bit pricey.

Well!!! Where to start. Ate at Northern hotel today for lunch. To say we were disappointed is a huge understatement. My brothers meal, sicilian chicken was OK... Ish. My sister in laws' meal, spicy prawn pasta consisted of a bowl of spaghetti, a few vastly overcooked prawns smothered in an obvious jar/bottled sweet chilli sauce with a few extra bits of red pepper thrown in. It was just about edible as we were late for lunch and all hungry. My chicken curry was the 'piece de resistance' a few hard lumps of overcooked chicken in the worst curry sauce ever... Tasteless and unseasoned, accompanied by 4 tiny poppadoms, obviously microwaved. Worst meal Ever. ... Portion sizes small, which in this case was a blessing!! ... Service poor and we couldn't get waitresses attention to tell her the curry was not acceptable. I told her when she cleared the table. She apologised and said she'd tell the chef... But that was the extent of dealing with my complaint. Will not be back. Used to be my favourite restaurant.... Now.... No way!!!
